Slot differences on ASUSTeK M5A99X EVO R2.0 (Socket 942)

I have a 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 (EVGA) card that is plugged into a grey/ivory slot on my board. There is also an identical looking blue slot at the top of the board slots. Does it make any difference which slot I use for the card...it takes up 2 slots (space wise) so I would prefer to insert it in the top slot.

Does it matter to the card/system whether the slot is ivory or blue ?

    Thanks.....TiminAz

    :)

I would move your existing Card down one slot, and use the Upper Blue slot, however I would check on the height of that green heat sink, it might get in the way of some Graphics Cards.
In which case the white one.

Does not really matter which one of the two.

    This may help......

    PCIe Versions: 3.0 vs 2.0 vs 1.0

Any number after PCIe that you find on a product or motherboard is indicating the latest version number of the PCI Express specification that's supported.
Here's how the various versions of PCI Express compare:

    • PCI Express 1.0: 2 Gbit/s per lane (32 Gbit/s in an x16 slot)
    • PCI Express 2.0: 4 Gbit/s per lane (64 Gbit/s in an x16 slot)
    • PCI Express 3.0: 7.877 Gbit/s per lane (126.032 Gbit/s in an x16 slot

You can pretty much put in in any X16 slot and you won't feel the performance difference. Unless you are using a more powerful card (Say, a GTX 1070).

Thanks guys for all the input...moved the card (which I didn't mention is a dual monitor card) and all is fine...not a gamer or video user so I don't see so far any noticeable difference - other than opening up more available MB slots - Only thing I'v noticed is bios start up (screens) has much smaller text displayed....when Windows starts tho....don't see any difference
Thanks again for all the help...

Maybe it is meant that the card has both a VGA and a DVI port or maybe 2 DVI ports.

    Actually...it has a DVI-D, HDMI, and a VGA port....I'm only using the DVI-D & HDMI ports....

It seems about an inch or so thick...so it doesn't use 2 slots...but does cover/take up 2 slots when installed...
