Windows 10: Slow and Lagging PC

My Desktop PC has started to run very slow and lagging between mouse clicks on everything. This started a week ago. So, I reinstalled windows twice; first keeping files; second wiping all files away. I ran an SFC /Scannow in CMD. No corruption. I ran a CHKDSK C: in CMD. No corruption. Still the PC continues to lag and be slow. It is even slow in BIOS. I have not added any new hardware or even opened up the PC chassis. There have been no BSODs. Why would my desktop PC suddenly run slow, even after a clean Windows 10 install? Why is BIOS slow as well? Please help!Specs:MSI Z170A GAM

Random lag spikes

We would like to know more about your lag issue:

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

Laptop Asus Slow/Lag during and everytime windows update

It's really odd for your computer to experience a performance issue (slowness/lag) after each and every update, hence, it should improve your computer's performance. There could be some software that's causing the issue, or an outdated driver/s. That said,

PC lag -> reset - > super slow black screen

Hi Shuu555,

I once has a super slow PC. The cause of it was the CPU heating up due to dried up thermal paste between the CPU & the heatsink & a fan choked with dirt.

I would suggest that you take a look there. HOWEVER, be sure to have a spare tube of thermal paste in the event that you want to separate the CPU fan to confirm.

Another issue would be an ageing HDD causing slow reads which in turn cause serious lag.
