Windows 10: Slow boot on Win10 compared to Win7

Hello,

Compared to my Win7 installation, my Win10 boots up way slower than Win7 ever did.
Relevant hardware: 2600K@4.8, 8GB 1600/CL7 RAM, Samsung 840 SSD.
Fresh installation has been done after the initial upgrade, all drivers seem to be OK.

What I did was check the Event Viewer for boot performance, and it reports:
Windows has started up:
Boot Duration : 47008ms
IsDegradation : false
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎13T07:42:34.576341100Z
and
This application took longer than usual to start up, resulting in a performance degradation in the system startup process:
File Name : svchost.exe
Friendly Name : Host Process for Windows Services

Total Time : 6261ms
Degradation Time : 1261ms
Incident Time (UTC) : ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎13T07:42:34.576341100Z

Now, the svchost.exe with its 6 seconds don't think that it's relevant.
However 47seconds for the boot on the fast SSD and 4.8Ghz is ridiculous.

It usually waits a bit before going into windows (I have it set to log in automatically), and then it comes into windows, where it loads couple of programs, including Kaspersky, but waits for the whole another batch of programs, when it then finalizes the boot.

What can I do to troubleshoot any more? I am kinda out of ideas how to check what's blocking it.

Also forgot to mention..

During power on and using the win10 boot manager my system boots into win10 first, then i select win7, then win10 restarts my computer a second time ( with the minute+ delay) just to boot into win7.. WTF .

So i installed BCD boot manager, now my computer boots directly into win7...

But if i do boot into win10, apparently win10 changes something and requires a boot into win10 then a restart ( with the minute or so delay) to get back into win7 again...

As long as i avoid booting into win10 the BCD boot manager stays in control and boots only the one time & directly into win7, with no win10 involved, and no restart & minute+ delay either.

So this did fix the booting into win10 first issue, i can now boot into win10 or win7 from the BCD boot menu and the win10 boot menu doesn't interfere or cause a dual boot to get back into win7.

 

Slow it is.
Its not just slow on boot [take a coffee break...] but shutdown, restart, find anything, click Explorer.
I was hoping it was just the Tech Previews that were slower than vista.... but not so. the General release version is slower, if anything.

quite frustrating. this is making 8.1 look like the most underrated OS in computing history. its like lightning compared to this

Also I note that changing advanced sys properties to "Performance" mode had zero effect other than making things uglier. no change in stopwatch.

 

Well, I don't see much difference between W7 and W10 when it comes to performance itself, except that the calculator needs 3x longer to start... I only have problems with boots and reboots.
It's quite disappointing, and I really don't want to go "back" to W7.

 

I am having the same issue. My pc on windows 7 boots up like in 15 seconds. Since upgrading and doing a clean install of Win 10 it takes 2-3 minutes and on a SSD. Ridiculous!!! I have rolled back to Win 7 and will wait till the issue is addressed. Its a shame as I really like the new features it brings to the table. Especially the virtual desk tops and Cortana. *Sad

 

there are a lot of such remarks/complaints around the web.
I spent another 45 min or so today tweaking everything I could think of from turning off display 'niceties' to making restore points then turning off Sys Protection, stopping Search Indexer, updating to better drivers [IRST, video], looking for system errors.
One thing I notice is that what might have created a 'red' error in the past only seems to generate yellow warnings or even "information" entries in the system error events log. tracking some of these down to their Hardware ID's I see several that show, in events under Dev Manager/device/details/hw id - looking at "events" log get the message "additional installation required" . huh?
web not much help on that. so, apparently there are devices that are "close enough" but not installed properly? isn't that new news?

I guess next step is to turn on logging and try to get someone competent to go through line by line

I also have not read an authoritative article on the impact the many Privacy settings have: many of these, most in fact, have device dependencies, so having them [so many] "on" must have a performance hit:

When I upgraded from wds 8.1 to 10 .. the boot time was way slow ... and unbearable ... so I had to roll back to 8.1 ..
I will try wds 10 again after SR1 ... coming soon ..*Wink

 

So much about the whole hype Windows 10 is faster than Windows 7, in every aspect. Oh well, it is stable enough for me not to reinstall everything from scratch, lets hope they manage to fix it so it really behaves better than Windows 7.

 

Mine is about the same as when I had 7 (20 seconds on a bitlocker enabled drive):





Some hardware configurations and drivers aren't 10 ready yet, but fortunately mine works fine. Just one and only one issue: Windows store app crashes when opening after the computer resumes from sleep. Reopening after crash is always successful though.

whew... where do I start? with the RED ones, of course. First up is Cryptographic services - not exactly the kind of thing one would want to force "disable"...

 

Hmm, nothing suspicious here. Apparently when it takes longer to boot up, there is an entry as an "error". I don't know above which number is an error and below which number is a warning.

My error looks like this:

And immediately after that:
Application of user policy caused a slow down in the system start up process:

Whatever that is...

 

I think that with driver updates and a Windows 10 Samsung Magician things will fly.

 

Optimized drivers might bring something to the table, yes, but even clean W10 installation is slower on boot than clean W7 installation. Samsung Magician doesn't do wonders though, I already had that in W7.

 

Same for me. Windows is downloading and installing updates by the hour!
The slow boot times (and shut down times) will get less and less as time goes on.

You might want to also look at the Start Up list in Task manager and disable some of the rogue elements hiding in there!
