Slow image dialog box after update

    Hello.
After the update today, lucky I only have one major problem (there are others, but not important). however this is big and annoying and i don't know how to make it better.
So the thing is, wherever I want to save images from the internet(regardless of browser) or open images in stuff like Photoshop or Illustrator, the dialog box is insanely slow in showing the folder. I mean stuff like 2-5 minutes, and for every image, not just the first one like it sometimes happened a while back.
Any way to fix this? Thanks.

    :)

  2. Windows Security Client

After the anniversary update of Win10 last week (but perhaps unrelated) on boot I get the following error dialog box

    -----

    Windows Security Client

An error has occurred in the program during initialization. If the problem continues, please contact your system administrator.

    Error code: 0x800703ee

    ----

The box can be dismissed by clicking "Ok".

If I try to scan a file with Windows Defender I get multiple instances of the same error dialog box. After dismissing perhaps 10-15 boxes, the Windows Defender app opens.

Clicking any option in Windows Defender causes the error dialog box to be displayed.

Searching for "error code 0x800703ee" does not yield any useful results so far.

    thanks for any help/insights.

    ----- additional info

Hover mouse over item in a folder, right click "Scan with Windows Defender"

3 error dialog boxes will appear in slow succession and must be dismissed by clicking "ok" (time between windows is 5-10 seconds)

Windows Defender app opens after the 3rd error dialog box

then 13 more error dialog boxes appear and must be dismissed (time between windows is nearly instant)

Click tab "Update" and 1 error dialog box appears immediately

Click tab "History" and 1 error dialog box appears immediately

Click tab "Home" and 2 error dialog boxes appear immediately

    Above behavior is consistent.

Hi! thanks for replying, but no, that does not seem to be the issue causing the problems.

Hi, do you notice this problem with open/save boxes in, say, an office suite or a simpler program like Wordpad?
    And how about a player?
    An image viewer?

Just wondering if this only occur in programs handling certain file types - a subset of programs?

    So, let's try
    a. Clean boot - any change?

    b. If not then download Shellexview, run it, hide all MS extensions, disable all others, noting the 32 bit option which exposes more.
    See if there's any change.

    c. If not try Safe Mode

Finally (for now) let's do a basic check:
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

    Hi again.
The problem was actually getting worse, it was happening even when I would open File Explorer (much more than a minute), clean boot and safe mode didn't fix it, so in the end I got annoyed enough to just undo the latest upgrade. Not a permanent solution, but I've missed enough work over this and I just wanted it to be fixed already!!!
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, I understand returning to build 1511 resolves the problem.

If you are using '10 Pro you can defer upgrades.

In an ideal world, you would describe your problem, and someone would wave a magic wand, and you would get an instant fix. Sadly we're often doomed to disappointment. However, there is a way you can often help yourself with the right preparation.

Now you are back to a working situation, start using disk imaging routinely. We strongly recommend this here- it can save you quickly when you are under pressure.

Creating disk images lets you restore Windows and all your disks and partitions to a previous working state, quickly and probably without technical help.

    You can recover from:
    - a failed disk drive (restore to a new one)
    - ransomware (which encrypts your disk)
    - user error
    - unrecoverable problems from failed updates to problem programs
    - unbootable PC (hardware faults aside)

Images also act as a full backup- you can extract files too.

You can even use images to help you move more easily and quickly to a new PC.

Imaging can even help you sleep at night knowing you have a second chance.

Many here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a good robust solution and more reliable than some others. It’s
    - more feature rich
    - more flexible
    - more reliable
than Windows Backup and Restore system images.

It's well supported with videos, help and a responsive forum.
