Virtualbox internet speed runs 128.57% faster the O/S hosting it, maxing out the speed of my connection.

After upgrading to a new motherboard my internet connection was reaching 120 mbps for a short while. However, within an hour or two, windows found a way to disable that, and now I am stuck at 50-70 mbps. I get 174 megabits in linux almost instantly. One user claimed their only solution was resetting TCPIP to defaults, but for them, the fix only lasts for two hours before throttling kicks in. Apparently the only solution is to downgrade to Windows 10 Pro 1809 (17763.615).

So this is clearly inbuilt throttling that so far I have not found a way to permanently disable.

I am using a Gigabit network card with successful 1 gigabit uplink between all routing devices and the PC. I've run troubleshooter and "Network Reset." Rebooted into safemode and tested with absolutely no third party software present and still the same result.

I have updated and changed Adapter drivers to the manufactures original release, and currently use the latest February 2020 release. I have run TCP optimizer's optimized settings multiple times, gpedit QoS modifications (QoS is disabled in the adapter anyway) Its a custom machine so no throttling service built in or app for the lan card. I disabled Windows update and all the rest. I have disabled TCP heuristics, changed congestion provider from cubed to ctcp, enabled/disabled side scaling & window auto tuning, enabled and disabled every advanced option under adapter driver Advanced properties, unbinded everything but the essentials with nvspbind. Enabled and disabled windows based chimney and offloading. Used a different network adapter. Reinstalled O/S multiple times.

Given VirtualBox O/S's run fullspeed but the host OS does not, I successfully created a Virtual adapter bridged to mine to try mimic these conditions, this did not improve the situation.

Disabling taskoffloading gave me the best, (from 1.3 to 5.5 megabytes per second downloading Nvidia drivers in firefox) yet still minimal improvements, in powershell: Set-NetOffloadGlobalSetting -TaskOffload disabledDisabling hystart (slowstart) gave me better initial throughput:netsh int tcp set global hystart=disabledWindows 10, after days of tweaking

Multithreaded downloads at 32 threads per file are limited to 9.6 megabytes per second on the same Nvidia servers. Torrents do not have this same limitation in windows, they max out at 14 megabytes per second. So this appears to be inbuilt QoS app or packet specific throttling.

I was able to mitigate it for a while unbinding unused drivers with nvspbind but microsoft updates broke the fixes.

I decided to do a little test in virtual box to see if I could reach the speeds my device is capable of... I was surprised to see my internet connection maxing out, nearly to the point I saw in linux. If it was a driver issue, you would think bridged adapters would not run at these speeds.

I just ran a Network Reset in windows 10, with no changes at all to my speeds.

Left: Windows 10, Right: Windows 7, below, Windows 10, the actual O/S I am running now.

Disabling AV, & Windows Firewall, and changing static IP did not help

I've done everything I can think and more. Anybody have any ideas?

  2. fast internet speed, slow buffering

the speed is considered fast here. previously i can buffer youtube video in 360p with ease, no need to pause for buffering. after several windows update, internet become really slow.

Slow download speed fast upload on Ethernet.

    Hi

If a website has a slow server, a fast internet connection may be experienced but may have very slow download speeds. Download speed will be affected with the website server as it also impact your internet connection speed.

You may try a test with other websites and check the results with the website that you are experiencing slow download speed.

Meanwhile, kindly click on this link and find the post created by Santos_Rai
to troubleshoot network and incoming internet connection.

Kindly post back and share with us the result.

Slow Internet Speed in Windows 10 1909 (but fast in VirtualBox)

Slow Internet speed on only one computer.

    Hi Cody,

Slow internet speed on one of your computer could be due to the following:

    • Outdated network adapter driver
    • Different Wi-Fi chipset
    • Computer processing speed

Make sure that the network driver of your computer(s) are always updated.

We also suggest you to contact your internet service provider for them to check your internet connection speed and give you more information.

Feel free to post back if you have other concerns.
