Windows 10: Slow pc after adding extra ssd

Disk manager/ssd’s manufacturer program shows new installed ssd as working and normal but for some reason my pc is running slow now, even though the drive is just an add on. O/s drive is the boot drive and bios is set to achi, RST is on auto start up. Don’t know why the new ssd would have any impact on my pc performance, on startup login screen takes awhile then desktop icons take a while to load and folders take a bit to open/show thumbnail and preview etc... thanks for anyone’s help.

ntoskrnl.exe hogging cpu after adding extra SSD

I just added an extra MX500 SSD to my laptop ( ROG G751JY). Since then ntoskrnl.exe is taking 10 to 20% cpu usage all the time, even at idle and very high power consumption.

One of the cpu threads is always running at nearly full load.

I checked my ssd firmware, it is up to date. I checked superfetch, such thing is not at all listed in services.msc

how can I bring my system back to normal??

Hi,

Slow SSD performance can be caused by several factors like Hybernation mode and Superfetch service.

As an initial troubleshooting step, try disabling Hibernate mode since it is unnecessary for the SSD system as it takes too much time to boot from it.

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Enter the administrator credentials once prompted.
• In the Command Prompt window, type or copy and paste this command:
  
  powercfg -h off
• Press Enter.

Note: Once Hibernate is already disabled, you can also free up some space to improve its performance.

We also recommenddisabing Superfetch as one way to optimize the SSD performance:

• Press Windows key + R to open the Run
  dialog box.
• Type services.msc and press Enter.
• Scroll down and right-click on Superfetch.
• Select Stop.

PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval

• Install system in case
  • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
• Turn on PC
• setup HDD
• run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
  • run realtemp at the same time

• While in Prime95 test
  • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
  • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
  • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!

What do you guys think??
