Slow PC after patching from 25th Jan

    Hi,
So I applied patches on 25th Jan, not sure when these were released or if they were Patch Tuesdays patches that I hadn't yet installed. Ever since those patches were installed my PC has been really sluggish, freezes on launching Explorer (File not Internet of course *Wink), changing tabs on Firefox causes freezes, starting up programs start really slowly. Before this my PC was very quick and incredibly responsive.

    Windows 10 64bit build 10586
    3930K i7
    16GB RAM

When the freezes happen the CPU never goes above 10%, if not 5% and the RAM sits at 25%... so it isn't due to CPU bottlenecking anything, or it struggling to perform actions simultaneously. This happens whether it returns from sleep or is a fresh boot up. I boot off a SSD.
I have scanned with multiple AV and 2 different malware scanners, all coming up clean.
Got a few "corrupt" unfixable files in sfc /scannow but as such I haven't had enough control to open Explorer and find the log file without multiple freezes on every folder tree.

Booted in safemode to re-run sfc /scannow, and look at the .log file.

Unreadable font (PRIORITY: ULTRA SUPER HIGH)

We still have problems with several fonts in Windows 10 Creators Update (Arial Narrow as example) and it affects all PCs with the update in our organization, including have installed the May 25th patch. Our main language select is English (United States)
    already in local settings.

Slow PC after patching from 25th Jan

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.
Have you tried uninstalling the update to see if it's the cause of your problem?

You have some further repair options, assuming the problem is related to Windows files.

I'd recommend preceding them with running chkdsk to verify integrity of your data structures.

Try running these in sequence from a elevated (admin) Command Prompt:

To open an admin Command Prompt window
Press Win key + X, then click ‘Command Prompt (admin).
Then copy/paste each in turn at the prompt, press <Return> and wait for the command to complete.

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /scannow

If you get ‘unable to locate source’ then follow Kyhi's directions here, including the download offered.
    repair an online Windows image

Finally you have the option to do an In-place upgrade install repair.
For this you need an installation medium with the same build as you have installed.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums
This will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
    - all/most associations will be unchanged
    - all your programs will be left installed
    - you will lose any custom fonts
    - you will lose any customised system icons
    - you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
    - you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install

Note: Disk imaging is a brilliant way to
    - preserve your system (and your sanity)
    - back up your data
    - restore your system to a previously working state in a relatively short time

Recommended: Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper (free) + their boot disk/device + large enough external storage medium.
