Windows 10: Slow taskbar for certain user

Good day!My taskbar is very slow to respond when clicking grouped icons, the start menu, the search bar, and the icon that expands the system tray. However, clicking on "ungrouped" icons responds instantly. Moreover, Alt+Tab and WinKey+Tab responds instantly and switches windows instantly. Clicking the notification icon doesn't seem to have any noticeable slow down as far as I can observe.I started to notice this after getting the update KB5017308 on 2022-09-19. I was and am unable to do a system restore for that unfortunately. That's the only significant change in my computer that I can

The other reason I suggested this is that users can add characters to their username that are not alphanumeric (e.g. user*). This confuses things somewhat when looking at the list.

 

System Icons on taskbar

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

Certain icons in taskbar won't open

To help us identify the cause of the issue, we'd like to clarify the following information:

• Did you make any changes to your computer's configuration prior to the issue?
• Have you tried using a different mouse?
• Does this issue only persists with the Taskbar icons?

In the mean time, let's run System File Checker scan and DISM commands. System File Checker is a Windows utility that allow users to scan for and restore corruptions

in Windows system files. Follow these steps for instructions:

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type this sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

If SFC did not find any violations, it's still a good idea to run DISM Restorehealth. For instructions, please follow these steps:

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type this Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth and hit
  Enter.
