    slow to reorganise folder view

Win10 14905-160811 on fast ssd system

I have a library folder with 4,000 images. The folder is set to view in date order. When I open it in File Manager a green bar crawls across for up to two minutes before the folder is displayed in the correct order. This doesn't always happen but when a third party program wants to access the folder, it always happens.

I have another similar folder but with under 500 images and the same happens, although it resolves faster at 30 seconds.

Each folder is set to "general" and detail view so no thumbnails are needed.

My system is extremely fast and is used for image processing and video editing. I have experienced this problem with many versions of Windows before.

Are there any settings I need to alter to stop this? It is extraordinary that this happens in this day and age.

    :)

6280 - Organising my memory card

Hi hope someone can help me.

I have a Nokia 6280, love the phone and the camera is great. Only problem I am finding is how to organise the memory card into folders.

I would like to put my photos into separate folders to make them easier to view, but when I try to reorganise it says 'not enough memory'.

Also have a problem with the MP3 - it includes all my ringtones in there as well, and all I want is the music tracks.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    slow to reorganise folder view

Hi, I'm sure you have a faster PC than mine (you can see my specs).
I've created a test folder on my desktop of 1.5Gb containing some 650 photos.

Whatever I do, using file explorer, changing the view from medium to large icons, to details, rearranging, adding columns - it's all pretty fast.

Note that being on my desktop it's also including in indexed locations, and they are indexed 'immediately' when I copy photos into the folder.

Very fast also in Open/Save from Irfanview and Faststone software, e.g.

    Do you notice any change
    a. after a clean boot
    b. if that makes no difference if you
download and run Shellexview (free); hide all MS extensions, disable all others, noting the 32 bit option which exposes more?

This is an example. I've shortened it from the original 1min 40 secs

    This can't be right

My system is a home built i7-4790 running normal clocking with 16Gb RAM and booting off an SSD, two graphics cards and three monitors.

Oh and this was taken after an update and reboot to Insider preview 14926

This may be wide of the mark but the 'crawling green bar' can happen when there is also some network location that is unavailable or offline such as a printer with an integral SD card reader.

    slow to reorganise folder view

I thoughtthe links from dalchina hit the nail on the head. Seems the folder property for the type of content needs to be left at 'general' for best performance. Now I had myself thought of this and changed it. But the link also says that Windows will helpfully reset this setting if it thinks fit and sure enough, it had!

However, testing showed this made no difference alas.

Mooly thought an unavailable network location may be responsible. Now oddly enough I sometimes find a USB drive listed in Explorer but with nothing in it and unavailable. But when testing just now, this wasn't the case so that's out too I think.

Whilst writing this reply I played with explorer again and this time the folder opened instantly and in correct sort order! Now was this because I had just let the green bar crawl or had the fix worked? Time will tell.
