Slow USB3 copy rate Lenovo E560 Seagate 2TB external drive

I found a number of posts in 2017 about this problem but have found no solution.

My E560 is an i7 with 16gb and a 240gb Samsung SSD Windows 10 Pro

My copy rate starts at 1-2 mb/sec and soon drops to zero.

Using the USB3 port I get very fast downloads from an SD card.

Using the Seagate on my desktop I7, 16gb I get very fast USB3 speeds hundreds mb/sec

Using the Seagate with the USB3 cable on the Lenovo USB2 port I get 110mb/sec.

I have updated all drivers offered by Lenovo Vantage.

I have removed the USB drivers from Windows10 and allowed Windows to reinstall them.

And still I get virtually zero speed.

From time to time the Seagate is reported as corrupt and I reformat it after which it works on Desktop and Laptop USB2 port.

One worrying issue is that one update reported as necessary by Lenovo Advantage was to the Intel Management Engine Firmware version 11.8.80.3746. I allowed Advantage to apply this, after which the Seagate drive was no longer recognised at all. I booted from Ubuntu which also could not recognise the disk. I then did a query on the Intel site for this firmware update whose .exe name I cannot now remember and found this was not compatible with my variant of E560. I installed the one from the Intel site and lo and behold the disk was recognised once again.

Full of hope I tried copying but was back to the 1/2mb/sec speed.

    Any bright ideas out there?

    :)

Issue with R/W of externally powered Seagate 2TB HDD with Win10

    Hi,

    I have an externally-powered 2TB Seagate HDD.

Since the era of Win10 began, it has started to behave badly.

    Keeps continuously disconnecting and connecting.

When I try copying files, the copying-rate goes to 0MB/sec and resumes the "copy" after a minute, or so.

I must say it was bought 2 years back.

What should I do? Please help.

    * Doesnt happen with Win7.

    Thanks,

    Bharath

    Seagate external drive

    Hi Paul,

One of the possible reasons why your Seagate external drive is not working properly is due to a corrupted storage device. To help us determine the appropriate troubleshooting steps, we would like to ask the following questions:

    • Were you able to connect this external drive to another computer?
    • Have you made any recent changes before you encountered this issue?
    • Have you tried to unplug and use another USB port available?
    • What is the error message that you received?

We look forward to your response.

Slow internal hard drive transfer rates

    Hi

I'm getting very slow hard drive transfer speeds. Both drives are SATA:

    Seagate Barracude Green 2TB 6Gb/s 5900RPM ST2000DL003

    HGST 4TB 6Gb/s 7200RPM HDN724040ALE640

I'm transferring from the Seagate to the HGST. I'm copying over some video tutorial courses, they're quite big ~ 14Gb each. Each course has a number of videos averaging about 80-150Mb per video. I'm getting
    tranfer speeds of about 8-9MB/s.

I've ran CrystalDiskMark on both drives and they're reported as what I expect. I've attached screen shots of the results. The read/write for the Seagate is 124/120, for HGST is 150/149 respectively.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 and I have 32Gb of GSkill DDR4 ram. I'm new to this motherboard so may be there's a setting which would help?

As far as I know I think the chipset drivers are up to date.

I'm at a lost why the transfer rate would be so slow. Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks
