  1. Slow warm boot & Fast cold boot

    Hello,

My Lenovo laptop is pretty fast at cold boot. It takes about 12 seconds from initial bios screen to desktop.

On the other hand, warm boot is really slow. The same period takes about 51 seconds, involving a long black screen.

Actually, it was similiar at Windows 8.1 as well. What can be the cause of that?

    Thanks

    :)

Unable to boot to Windows 10 via HDD after installing SDD on the PC.

In a dual boot situation, if you cold boot either version of Windows 10 after running the other one when Fast Startup is enabled it can and will cause file system errors in both installations and possibly any other drives installed in the computer. Turn
off Fast startup in both Windows 10 installations. Warm reboots are not affected the same way.

Slow startup after Windows 10 Threshold 2 update

Ah, you don't have Avira, fair enough. My restarts & cold boots are also intermittant - sometimes fast 15 sec boot, sometimes slow 45 sec boot. Symptoms seem the same as yours, one thing for sure that we have in common is this only started happening
since the big Threshold 2 Windows Update.

    Start Microsoft event viewer.
    Expand Application and Services Logs.
    Expand Microsoft/Windows/Diagnostic–Performance
Click on Operational. In the Windows that opens up check out event IDs 100 and 200. When you expand these event IDs you will see a detailed breakout of boot event durations. They should help you identify the particular issues. In a cold restart you should only have an event ID of 100 while in the reboot you will have 200 followed by 100.

We have several brand-new installations that have this behavior across several different computer models, so it honestly would not surprise me if this is a bug that will be fixed.

  6. Snakeyes thanks a lot for your reply. I checked where you said, chrome.exe was causing a delay. I've disabled Chrome notifications and it is a bit better. And those are the 200 and 100 logs, whic I can't make much sense:

    Try this.
Start msconfig – go to the services tab – check the box that says Hide all Microsoft services. Then uncheck every box that's left making note of each one.
Close msconfig and restart. There will be a very slight additional delay as Windows makes the adjustments. After restart check your 100 and 200 errors and see if there's any meaningful difference. If there is, go back to msconfig and selectively recheck the boxes you had unchecked in the last step. This could help identify if any of the services are causing any boot/restart delays.
