  2. What's on your hardware wish list ?

a whole ryzen system x 2 and some decent network racks that would work under a desk. As well as smarthome stuff.

Cortana connect with SmartThings not working

After hearing about the new IFTTT functionality that Cortana had acquired lat week, I decided to try adding Samsung Smarthome via the Cortana Connected home interface. To my surprise, it seems to work now!

I'm not sure how much she can do, as she says I don't have any devices she can control, but this seems like progress.

I have a idea about next generation smart phone

Part of that is called DLNA
    http://www.dlna.org/home
    .

I can already use my iPhone, iPad and Android tablet to select channels and on demand video from Comcast, my cable company. I have a TV program guide on my mobile device, connected to the internet, and when I make a selection it delivers the commands to
my cable box over the cable network (which also supplies my internet).

My Sony Tablet has IR and universal remote functionality. Such apps and hardware accessories aren't hard to find.

Smarthome http://www.smarthome.com/_/index.aspx carries lots of stuff that allows control of household stuff, lights, garage doors, etc, from a mobile phone app.

Hooking a PC up to my big screen and using something like Splashtop to control the PC from the mobile would give you many of the scenarios you propose, like initiating a Netflix session from the mobile.

Surprisingly, much of what you suggest is already very doable, you just have to cobble it together yourself.

Would be interesting if some company put a bit of it together as a differentiator. Too much of it and it would likely raise the device cost enough, it would be a tough sell. Folks seem to gravitate on the price, rather than looking at what you get for it.
