Windows 10: Snap layout feature stuck on desktop also can't turn off

Looks like BioJoe has some insights but the geniuses at Microsoft closed the thread to discussion.I have a Snap Layout that I cannot shut off either through the systems settings or regedit. BioJoe seems to have determined that his popup was actually a Dell Monitor issue. I don't have a Dell monitor, mine's an Acer, but this problem looks exactly the same. However, my monitor is several years old and this is a brand new phenomena, so I'm seeking ideas on where I might look to kill this supposed benefit.

Snap layout feature stuck on desktop (also can't turn off)

Hello, I wanted to figure out how to completely disable the window snap layout feature on the desktop that's prompted when you grab the corners of a window. I've went into multitasking --> snap windows and confirmed it's off after reboot but the prompt still persists. Furthermore, there are frequent moments when the prompt itself gets frozen on the screen and unresponsive to any mouse clip (the panels will highlight but clicking has no effect). The only way to removed the panel is to reboot the computer-perhaps there's a service in task manager I can restart but not quite sure how to approach this. Thanks for any advice.

Turn off suggestions for snap layouts

This March 26 update brought suggestions to snap layouts:

This was poorly executed. Before adding suggestions to something that is a direct part of users' workflow, an option to disable suggestions should have been included with the update. The oversight here is unbelievable.

I love the snap layouts feature. It's probably my single favorite feature of Windows 11, and was the main reason I upgraded. I use it in my workflow daily, easily dozens of times each day. I expect to see the same layout options each time I open the snap layouts selection. The only thing I might desire is more layouts, or customizable layouts.

Instead, what you have done is add duplicates of the same layouts as "suggestions". This is the equivalent of going to the grocery store to purchase apples, and having an annoying salesperson standing in front of the apples shoving an orange and a grapefruit in your face and yelling "Instead of an apple, how about an apple and a grapefruit or an apple and an orange?!" when there is a clearly labeled bin for "oranges" and "grapefruits" right next to the apples with a sign that I can already read without "suggestions" on how to purchase my fruit.





The suggestions clutter the view and have made my workflow infuriating, ruining my favorite feature of Windows 11. I can see how inexperienced users might like to enable a feature that suggests snap group layouts if they aren't used to using the feature, but it absolutely should have come with an option to disable the suggestions and return to the clean layout.

The new Snap layouts feature focus is to increase user's productivity, which helps to arrange or snap the apps logically on the screen according to the user choice. This is particularly helpful when the user has a bigger, or widescreen, and has multiple applications open as per the requirement. To invoke snap layouts, on the active Window, either press Windows key+Z or hover over the maximize button. In the earlier releases of Windows, the user had to drag the app to the edge of the screen to activate the snapping feature.

On traditional displays, you would see four layout choices and for ultrawide screens, you would see six layout choices.





To choose the location of the app, simply click the mouse button in the desired layout to snap the first active app on that part of the screen. When the first app is snapped, snap assist would show up, asking you to select the app you want to snap on the second layout. After the second, select the app for 3rd layout(if you selected that layout) and so on.

Snap groups:


So after using Snap groups to snap your work apps, let us say you want to take a break, and want to use Focus sessions on the Clock app. This is where the snap group feature comes in handy. You can pick up where you left them off and can open the layout with a single click. In the taskbar, it shows the title as Group.

To summarize, Snap groups remember the layouts used when multiple apps have been snapped mutually into a group using the Snap Layouts feature so that you can quickly resume where you left off.

In the Windows Insider Builds 22557+, Microsoft has introduced a new way to invoke Snap layouts. Just drag a window to the top of the screen to reveal the snap layouts, drop the window on top of a zone to snap it, and use snap assist to finish building your layout.





How to turn off Snap Flyouts

In case this feature is not relevant to you, Microsoft has also provided an option in Windows 11 to turn off specific settings related to Snapping in the Settings app. To turn off Snap layouts:

1. Open Settings>System.
   
2. Navigate to Multi-tasking.
   
3. Turn off the settings you like, under snapping.
