Windows 10: Snip & Sketch freezes entire computer forcing a restart

I would like to know if there is a fix for this issue that I can perform or ask my IT department to perform—because of admin permissions.


I use Snip & Sketch on a regular basis. It's an exceptionally useful and versatile tool. Unfortunately, over the past few months, I've experienced numerous freezes across three different computers running Windows 10. Notably, Snip & Sketch seems to run with no issues for taking a screenshot. It tends to freeze when you being drawing on the picture or opening the ruler function.


NOTE: I was able to re-create this issue just now by snipping part of the screen and clicking to draw on the picture with the default settings.


My personal desktop is always updated to the most recent version of Windows 10 Home. It experiences this issue in the exact same manner as my work PC—which is the primary one I'm concerned about. The other two have been Windows 10 Enterprise across all updates in the past six months approximately.


Here's the information for the PC I just experienced this issue on:

Edition: Windows 10 Enterprise

Version: 1909

OS Build: 18363.1440

Thinkpad T14
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U with Radeon Graphics 1.70 GHz
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB 15.2 Usable
Storage: Micron MTFDHBA512TDV

Snip & Sketch keeps overriding clipboard

Provide us additional information to assist you better with this issue:

1. Which version of Windows is running on your device?

Here are the few steps you can try to fix the issue.

Method 1

Refer the article Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store
and try the suggested steps and check if the issue still persists. If the issue still persists try with the method 2.

Method 2

Reset Snip & Sketch app

1. Press Windows + I key and click on
   Apps.
   
2. Click on Apps & features. Select Sketch & Snip app from the available list of installed apps.
   
3. Click on Snip & Sketch > Advanced Options.
   
4. Click on Reset option.
   
5. Restart the computer once and check the status of the issue.
   
6. Let us know if the issue still persists.

Snip and Sketch Awkward

Use Windows+shift+s to launch Snip and Sketch. Can snip a screenshot.

Now the problem is this: after snipping the screen shot, it does not automatically appear in the Snip and Sketch app. So I open Snip and Sketch and there's nothing on it.

So I have choose 'new' and snip the screen yet again.

I recall using this once and taking a screenshot and voila! Snip and Sketch appeared with the screen shot duly in the app's workspace, ready for annotations and saving etc. This facility has disappeared. I have re-set it according to instructions, and even
reinstalled it - yet the problem persists.

Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Thank you for updating me that information. If you mean the snip and sketch? Based on your description the snipping tool is crashing?

Please try to reset Snip and Sketch

Press Start then search Apps and Features

Select Snip and Sketch on the list

Click Terminate then Reset

If it doesn't work, Please try to create a new administrator account then check if everything is working.
