Windows 10: snipping tool is not working on your computer right now.

I have seen many people get this problem out of the blue, and there appears to be no fix or solution - it just stops working. MS never debug these issues, they just get you to reinstall the OS or other way to sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away.


Can anyone recommend a non-Microsoft free window/rectangle snipping tool which I can install which works? On Mac I use Skitch which is better than snip and just works.


I just found that you can do alt-print screen to get a snap of the current window which can be pasted into an app. This is actually quicker and easier than snip was, its just missing a way to select a potion.


Not being able to take screen shots is hugely limiting.

Your post is unclear. Please post a step-by-step description of what you are doing, e.g. like so:

• Open the snipping tool
• Click "New"
• etc.

To resolve your concern about the issue, please follow the steps below:

• Right click on the Task Bar, and select
  Task Manager.
• Look for Snipping Tool, and click the End task button.

All of a sudden I am getting the error message when trying to open up the Snipping Tool of:

The Snipping Tool is not working on your computer right now. Restart your computer, and then try again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.

I have rebooted. My system did do a windows update last night.

Any suggestions?
