Windows 10: Snipping tool screen turns black

Issue with snipping tool-when I try to snip the screen goes black

Please try this:

Step 1:

Click Start, and type Snipping Tool.

Right-click Snipping Tool from the search results, and click App Settings

Click Reset,

Click Repair.

Note: In Windows 11, there is no Snip and Sketch. It comes pre-installed with the new Snipping Tool (which replaces the old Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch apps)

Step 2:

Turn off Focus assist if it's enabled

Step 3:

Open Services.msc and make sure that the following services are set to "Automatic" and running:

• Windows Push Notifications System Service
  
• Windows Push Notifications User Service

Your post is unclear. Please post a step-by-step description of what you are doing, e.g. like so:

• Open the snipping tool
• Click "New"
• etc.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark but your screen is turning grey when it ought, as you know, to get slightly dimmed / grey-ish. This sounds to me like a display driver problem. Perhaps your display driver needs to be reinstalled or updated.

I suggest going to your computer maker's support site and downloading updated drivers [& any BIOS or other firmware updates because they can also affect the display hardware].

If you just get this problem on internet banking websites then check if you have
IBM Trusteer Rapport installed.

• By default, it prevents screen captures on protected websites as a security measure.
• It used to turn the screen black rather than grey but I have not used it for a couple of years.
  
• Their website used to contain instructions for changing its settings to allow snipping tool / screen captures if you want to keep it installed but still want to capture screen contents.
