  1. Snipping Tool Squeezes and Truncates Images

I recently got a new laptop at work which upgraded me as a user to Win11 from Win10. My fave and reliable Win10 snipping tool is no more. Instead in Win 11 I have a snipping tool that truncates screen captures and squeezes or stretches the image/text I'm trying to capture. It turns out it's MY fault, as I connect my laptop to an external monitor for an extended desktop and they run at different resolutions and also are magnified to help with my aging eyesight. The only solution I've found seems to be for me to resize both screens back to 100%, then snip my image, and then reset the screens t

  2. Snipping Tool Truncating on First Paste

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for the feedback and the various suggestions. I worked through each one of them, some of which were addressing a different issue with the Snipping Tool not experienced by me but I pursued the solutions in case any had a secondary effect of resolving my issue. I did include the "reset", as well as deleting the app and re-installing it.

The procedure with changing the automatic time to manual and selecting October 30, 2021 caused the Snipping Tool to be non-functional as well as make Microsoft Office 2021 think that there was a licensing issue. As such, I couldn't demonstrate that the truncated image issue was affected/resolved as a result of the procedure. Converting back to automatic time setting satisfied the licensing issue and Snipping Tool functionality. However the basic issue still persists:

    1. First time paste of an image from the Snipping Tool displays only about the top fifth of the capture image, however the selection box around the truncated image in Word after pasting shows the full dimensions of the originally Snipped area, except there's empty space where the rest of the image should be.

    2. Every subsequent paste, with no other action, presents the full image

    3. Opening up a new blank Word document and pasting again (after #2 above) yields a full image

    4. Closing then opening the Snipping Tool, capturing a new image and pasting, starts the issue again (#1 above).

It's as if Word is aware of the full size dimensions, but only a portion is displayed on the first paste. Since it occurs when pasting in non-Microsoft Office apps, I'm inclined to think it's a problem with the Snipping Tool, Alternately, I suppose, there could be a common image-handling characteristic across unrelated apps. Or...... it could be a Windows 11 anomaly since Windows 11 is common mode across unrelated apps.

I used the Windows 10 version of the Snipping Tool for years and this issue was never present.

    Quite the head scratcher.

    Best Regards

  3. Snipping Tool Truncating on First Paste

Up to Date Windows 11 Pro

Microsoft Office Home and Business 2021

    Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023

Microsoft Paint (as came with Windows 11 Pro)

Snipping Tool (as came with Windows 11 Pro) used in Rectangle Mode

    Extended Displays: Laptop is 2560 x 1600 150%, Primary Display is 3480 x 2160 150%.

Issue: In some cases, a Snipping Tool image's bottom 75-80% is truncated when initially pasted into a document. The selection border/box that appears around the pasted image is the full size of the initial full image, except of course that only the top non-truncated image is inside the outline of the pasted selection box. This occurs whether using CTR-V or other methods to execute a paste e.g. clicking on the Paste icon in the menu bar in Word. Executing another "paste" immediately will reveal the full image. Every subsequent paste command (without any other actions) will paste the full image. This has been demonstrated when pasting into Word, Paint and Outlook. I couldn't duplicate it when pasting into a blank canvas in Photoshop. So far, once I've pasted the initial truncated image, all subsequent images are full content even if I paste in other applications (with no other actions except to open a blank document in the other apps). So far, as long as I haven't closed the Snipping Tool but I choose "New" for a new snip, the image will not be truncated when pasted. To return to the condition of an initially truncated image when pasting from the Snipping Tool, I have to close then re-open the Snipping Tool. I've tried changing screen resolution to 100% as has been discussed in other threads when there was a similar but different issue, but it had no effect on my issue. Setting display mode as "Duplicate" had no effect. Changing display assignments (1, 2) had no effect. It's quite the mystery.

I would appreciate any ideas to fix or further troubleshoot this issue, or if this is not the appropriate place to submit this topic, please provide guidance where I should post it.

    Best Regards.
