    Windows Product Key Confusion

    Hello, everyone,

I have searched far and wide around the web for a clear answer to my questions, but I have had no luck AT ALL.

    Here is my situation:

I am putting together my own computer (my first time), and I also have an old, crappy laptop (that runs very slow) with a Windows 7 Home Premium product key sticker on the bottom of it, but I have upgraded the OS on said crappy laptop to Windows 10 (if that
is a variable that needs to be considered).

    My issues:

-Will I be able to use this product key to transfer the license to my new computer, so I don't have to buy another Windows key/product?

-If so, may I PLEASE have a clear, step-by-step tutorial on how to do that?

I feel like there ARE answers out there, but most of them are fairly vague, and confusing for me, so if anyone could please give me a clear tutorial, or link me to one, that would be VERY much appreciated. If you need any additional information/details of
the situation, feel free to ask me. Thank you all for the help!

Where is my Product Key if I want to re-install?

Like davidhk said. But if you really want to see your windows key, I would suggest Belarc advisor. It will give you some useful information about your system, product keys of your software is among them (not only Microsoft, you will have listed most of your keys).

    So confused with Product Key

    Product key

    Hi Megan,

A product key is used when activating a software.
To help us determine the appropriate troubleshooting steps that can resolve your concern, we'd like to ask the following questions:

    • What product are you trying to activate?
    • Are you looking for the product key to activate your Office application?
    • Which version of Office are you trying to activate? To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this
      link.
    • Are you looking for the product key to activate your Windows?

We look forward to your response.
