Windows 10: “Soft Reset” since last night

Okay, so,

Last night I turned off my computer before I turned in for sleep as usual.

There was no waiting updates, or anything of the kind AS FAR AS I AM AWARE.

I wake up an hour ago, because I have trouble sleeping, and turn on my computer and all my desktop icons are all in the first two rows along the left hand side of the screen, my wallpaper is the bog standard Win10 blue wallpaper and a bunch of files are just straight up gone (I had like five things in my downloads file) and a few folders on my desktop for some stand alone stuff that wasn’t installed were deleted.

I am at a lose for words and am very upset and confused as to what the hell has happened.

If anyone can give me an even reasonable enough explanation that would be awesome please and thank you.

1020 shuts down at night - requires soft reset

I am on my second 1020 :smileysad:. First one had a faulty audio jack.



This one shuts down at night inexplicably. I wake up to check email in the morning and the screen is black. No buttons do anything. My only hope is to soft reset. I charge overnight using the charger that shipped with it. Twice it has happened while
charging. Once it happened while not charging. I've had one other likely unrelated crash - while on a call I hit the camera button by accident and the screen turned a rainbow of colored pixels. Had to soft reset.



I emailed Nokia support - nothing. I'm assuming I should take this 1020 back as well but I can't keep dealing with faulty phones. I tried removing a bunch of apps from my start screen and didn't seem to make a difference. All I have is basic stuff - phone,
email accounts, facebook, store, xbox music.



any suggestions or best to assume some faulty hardware, perhaps memory? It has had a shut down 4 of the 5 nights I've owned it.

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. I understand your Lumia 610 keeps getting stuck on step 6 of the update that you're trying to install. I can provide you a few steps to try in an effort to resolve the update issue.



There are a couple of different steps on a support page located at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2484484 that we'll want to try. I would suggest the steps for stuck in download mode, stuck at OEM splash screen, and error not listed on this page.



Before performing the suggested reset under the steps for error not listed, I would first suggest trying a soft reset. If you're able to remove the battery, leaving it out of the phone for a few minutes will soft reset the phone. Another option for performing
a soft reset would be to hold the power and volume down buttons until the phone has restarted completely.



Please let us know if any of these suggestions are helpful to your update issue.
