Visual Basic, Can't open SQL ADODB database

I have Windows10 and Visual Studio 2015 free version. I am having an SQL problem. I have created an SQL database

with tables with server 2016 but am unable to get VB to open an ADODB database using any connection string.

The server name is MSSQLLocalDB and the database is connected . The same database is working with visual basic 2008 and sql server 2005 Express. I'm thinking that I need the Express version of any other server instead of the LocalDB version.

I mostly get this message: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Always Encrypted now generally available in Azure SQL Database

Today we are announcing the general availability of Always Encrypted in Azure SQL Database.

Always Encrypted is an industry-first solution offering unparalleled data security against breaches involving the theft of critical data such as social security or credit card numbers. For example, an admitting nurse may have a business need to access a patient’s unencrypted social security number, but that data does not need to be visible anywhere else in the system. With Always Encrypted, patients’ social security numbers are stored encrypted in the database at all times even during query processing, allowing decryption at the point of use by authorized staff or applications that need to process that data.

Always Encrypted is simple to use, transparent, and ready to protect your data. Client drivers have been enhanced to work in conjunction with the database engine to decrypt and encrypt data at the point of use, requiring only minimal modifications to your applications. Encryption keys are managed outside of the database for maximum safety and separation of duties. Only authorized users with access to the encryption keys can see unencrypted data while using your applications.

Always Encrypted in Azure SQL Database

By ensuring the encrypted data and its corresponding keys are never revealed in plaintext to the database system, Always Encrypted allows you to confidently store your sensitive information in Azure SQL Database. You can also use Always Encrypted to restrict high privilege users in your own organization, for example DBAs managing your Azure-hosted databases, from accessing sensitive data, to further prevent information disclosure.

Always Encrypted is currently supported in .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server and will be supported in JDBC and ODBC soon.

Configure Always Encrypted in your database using SQL Server Management Studio, using PowerShell, or by creating a database project in SQL Server Data Tools.

SQL Server + C#: What’s new

With the release of SQL Server v.Next public preview on Linux and Windows, the ability to connect to SQL Server on Linux, Windows, Docker or macOS (via Docker) makes cross-platform support for all connectors, including .NET Framework and .NET Core SqlClient, even more important. To enable C# developers to use the newest SQL Server features, we have been updating SqlClient with client-side support for new features.

In .NET Framework, we have provided client-side support for Always Encrypted and added Azure Active Directory as an authentication method. We’ve also added a new connection string parameter called “Pool Blocking Period.” It can be used to select the behavior of the blocking period when connecting to Azure SQL Database and SQL Server. Many applications that connect to Azure SQL Database need to render quickly, and the exponential blocking period can be problematic, especially when throwing errors. By adding the Pool Blocking Period parameter, we aim to improve the experience for connections to Azure SQL Database. Learn more about the new parameter here.

.NET Core is the cross-platform, open-source implementation of the .NET Framework. The project includes CoreFX, the foundational libraries of .NET Core. Cross-platform support allows developers to seamlessly run applications on their operating system of choice, regardless of the platform it was developed on. For example, an app developed on Windows can be deployed to macOS and Linux, without ever having to port any code. To connect apps written in .NET Core to SQL Server (hosted anywhere), developers can use System.Data.SqlClient available in CoreFX. By developing in .NET Core on GitHub, we have been able to get feedback quickly and are actively working to enable the breadth of application scenarios and workloads.
