Solution : Drive unduly marked as "System" when creating a system disk image

Hi,Many of us are, for some reason, still using the legacy disk image backup utility of Windows. Sometimes, the backup utility insists on including in the image a drive that has nothing to do with system but is marked as "system" anyway. You can't exclude this disk from the backup. If you google for this issue you'll find a lot of procedures showing how to fix the problem but very often, they don't work. The drive continues to be marked as "system" although the Windows disk/partition manager or any other disk utility don't see it as such.In that case, open the registry editor and go to HKEY_LO

    :)

Backup "Create a system image" dialog does not list second hard drive as a target location

The dialog to create a system image in Windows 10 does not list my second hard drive (D: drive, formatted NTFS, not configured as removable storage, does not contain my windows installation) as a target location.

On the Disk management screen, the C: drive I want to back up is listed as a system & boot drive, the D: drive is listed as a plain NTFS drive (no 'page file', 'system' or anything but 'Primary partition' in the brackets).

Because of this, I can not back up my Windows installation as a system image. I noticed the system image dialog does list a USB stick when I insert it. Is the solution to somehow mark my D: drive as 'removable storage' somehow, or is there another reason
it does not list my D: drive?

  3. Unable to use System restore from a windows 10 image on Windows 7 with error: "windows cannot find a system image-the usb drive is not visible"

    Hi Otley,

Thanks for replying to us with the status of your issue.

As you mentioned, when you connect the USB flash drive in to the system then the System image backup is not present. It might occur if the System image files is not created properly or may be it got corrupted.

As an initial steps I suggest you to check for the memory space in the USB flash driver.

If the Memory is occupied in the USB flash drive the I suggest you to try running check disk on USB flash drive and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps to perform Check Disk.

    • Press Windows + X on your keyboard.

    • Select Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type the below commands.

      Chkdsk [drive letter]: /f /r

Reply to us with the status of your issue, we will be happy to assist you.
