    I know it's been a while since I posted, but I finally figured it out and it wasn't even related to the video card. It was the ram sticks. Somehow one of them lost the little seating tab and I either didn't notice it when I moved her 2 1 gig cards over to the secondary ones to upgrade her to a total of 10 gig or it fell off. I could not find it in the case so I suspect the firstr. Anyhow, mom failed a mem test and I started pulling ram out. To our surpise it solved all of her issues. So, for those googlers out there, check the ram if you go through two cards. [SOLVED] Graphics card becomes unstable and eventually fries windows :p
