Windows 10: SOLVED VLC Media Player SMB Empty Directory when connecting to Windows 11 from Android 9 device

For a while I have been having a problem connecting to my Windows 11 laptop from VLC Media Player on my Android 9 tablet via SMB. I started having a problem after a major Windows update. I was able to connect before. I made sure I had the latest updates for both Windows and Android. I figured out that my Windows login was the problem because of the syntax of how the 2 operating systems communicate. The way that Windows needs the username and password communicated to allow connection is usernameassword@host. Example: the username is Fred and the password is Blue and the host is 192.168.1.100

To safely Uninstall VLC Media Player from Windows 10 follow next steps:

• Click on the Start button, and then select “Settings”



• Click on “System”



• Select “Apps& Features” in the left-hand sidebar



• Scroll down to locate VLC Media Player

• Click “Uninstall” and then confirm the uninstallation in the pop-up window by clicking“Uninstall”

Search for the components of VLC Media Player

• Click Start and then enter Regedit in the search box, Windows 10 users can type Regedit in the search bar and then enter the Registry Editor



• Hold down Ctrl+ F keys to launch the Find box. Put in CLV Media Player

• Choose the registries related to VLC Media Player and then delete them all.

• Note that this steps can trigger problems, thus to prevent problems occurring, you’d better back up the registry so that you can restore it if problems occurred.

Step 4: Show hidden files and remove the leftovers

• Click Start> Control Panel> Folder Options, choose the View Tab.

• Check the “Show hidden files and folders” in the Advanced Settings and then select “OK”.

Search for the leftovers of VLC Media Player in the Search Bar by entering VLC Media Player, and then delete the leftovers.

Here are the steps, so everyone can benefit.

• 
  Download Videolan VLC Player from the Internet.
  Click Run. Like all free software adding them and their partners to toolbars etc is pre checked. Uncheck all the ones you do not want and click Next until finished.
  There will be a clown hat at the bottom of your screen. Click it to launch the software.
  
• 
  Right click on the Windows icon, then Control Panel, then Hardware/ Sound,
  you will see Autoplay under Devices and Printers
  
• 
  Click on Change Default Settings for Media or Devices.
  For ‘Play DVD and for enhanced DVD’, choose Videolan VLC as the default option from the drop down.
  
• 
  Click Save and you are good to Go !!
