SOLVED W7 Home to W10 home: freeze/ultimate step (96% of the last 1%)

    Hi,

Sorry for my poor English language. I will try to translate what I see on the screen (I attached an image of it).

In the middle of the dark screen a big blue circle with 99% in its middle and - préparation - (preparation?) below it. On bottom of the screen - Copie des fichiers - (Copy of the files?) in blue (achieved, I guess). Then - Installation de fonctionnalités et pilotes - (Installation features and drivers?) in blue too. Then, written in white on the bottom right - Configuration des paramètres 96% - (Configuration settings?).

This is like this since midnight (11 hours). I can enter a pen drive or my USB Cd reader no move.

My question: If I switch off electricty and start again what will happen? Will I have to reinstall all (I will follow Windows 10 Forums

Thank you for reading so far (and for your answers, sure).

    Jacques

13:14 Paris : I tried some combinations of Function keys (F1...) with Alt, Ctrl, Windows and suddenly I got this windows - Administrateur : c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe -. Do you think I can do something to "unfreeze" the installation?

    14:49 I swiched off. W 10 is running. Magic

    :)

  2. New Drive & W 10 Upgrade

Current situation: W7 Ultimate installed on a 1TB hard drive, about 240GB in use, in a home-assembled PC. I also have 2 unused copies of W7 (1 Professional, 1 Home). I have never even looked at W8 or W8.1 - zero experience.

Plan: Leave current W7 alone on current hard drive. Add a 512GB SSD. I install new copy of W7 on SSD as dual boot. Apply all updates to new W7. Upgrade new W7 to W10.

    Questions:

    1) It is a long time since I messed with Windows configuration and dual-boot. Does this all make sense? Using a spare copy of W7 would seem to avoid issues with using the W10 upgrade and dual-booting with the old version.

    2) Is there any difference between upgrading to W10 from different versions (Ultimate, Professional, Home) of W7? Since I have unused copies of Pro and Home, I could use either as copy to be upgraded. (If there is no difference I would use Home, saving Pro.)

    3) Will my fresh new copy of W7 have to wait in line before upgrading to 10? I heard that there was a bit of first-come-first-served to the process.

    4) I think I have read that once you upgrade to W10 you can make an install disk and install from scratch. Is that possible? Running from a W10 fresh install sounds appealing. Is there really any advantage to a clean install over an upgrade over a fresh
    copy of W7?

All specific advice, pointers to articles, and dire warnings appreciated.

    Thanks!

    W7 to W10 upgrade

I have tried to upgrade to W10 home premium from my 64-bit W7 home premium operating system on my laptop. I checked that I meet all requirements and have tried everything anyone ever suggested. I wasted 2 days in December 2015, and still failed.

I had no problem in March 2016 upgrading my desktop W7 Ultimate to W10, so I thought I might try again to upgrade my W7 home premium.

I have now wasted another 2 days in March trying to upgrade the laptop. Either it is a problem with my laptop that the Windows Update Trouble-Shooter does not find, or W7 Home Premium (64) will not upgrade to W10. I give up.
