SOLVED: Windows 10 upgrade Outlook 2013 mysteriously disappearing

Installed windows 10 upgrade from the "offer" and within minutes of first boot my outlook 2013 (outlook.exe) mysteriously disappeared. Thought it was a virus. Scanned with everything but shows clean.

The history of this computer was that it had Office 2010 and then Office 2013 installed without removing 2010.

Tried to repair office 2013 using ISO, the outlook selection was grayed out unavailable.
Removed Outlook 2013 and reinstalled. Again within minutes after use the outlook.exe disappeared again.

sfc /scannow showed system errors. tried to fix using
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:c:\users\blablabla...
    didn't work.

Downloaded the windows 10 ISO and reinstalled, that fixed the sfc issues.
But same deal with Outlook 2013. Disappears just a few minutes after successful installation.

Turns out Windows 10 detected the Office 2010 outlook binary and registry entries somewhere and made a choice to just wipe all my outlook.exe *AND* prevent 2013 from installing.

Control Panel uninstall didn't help. I ended up using FixIt and one by one I removed all remaining 2010 components, reinstalled Office 2013 from scratch, and this time outlook sticks and doesn't get removed.

Wasted a few days and not impressed.

    :)

  2. Contacts are a mess...

    My first mystery is solved...

I gave all contacts from FB/outlook/hotmail/messenger the same name in Outlook.com and then linked them nicely together.

This way they were all nicely organized.

Then in Windows Phone, I went to People ->tapped '...' and selected Settings.

Now go to accounts; select the Microsoft Account and tap it unitel the meny 'sync' appears.

Click it and that will make your contacts sync between people in Windows Phone & Outlook.com

My second problem still exists: How do I get contacts synced between Outlook.com & Outlook 2013.

I looked up the different articles about Exchange ActiveSync in Outlook 2013 (that replaces the Hotmail Connector) but I can't seem to find an answer on how to get all contacts from Outlook.com to Outlook 2013. :-(

Windows 10 Update Screws up Outlook Calendar

Applied the 4/26/17 Windows 10 upgrade and it caused my Outlook 2013 calendar to disappear (could not open the folder error message). Called Dell Tech Support and they had no luck addressing. Had to roll back the upgrade. Is this problem being worked?

I ran into the same issue. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...=1438971480010

Thank you for posting why this was happening. In my research you'll notice mine was slightly different. I already had Office 2013, and I found other things that it modified/removed.

This appears to be a very serious issue for how significant costs and downtime can occur and what appears to be a privacy issue. Microsoft doesn't have a right to make modifications to one app when installing another. Unilaterally making changes to a system without authorization seems to me to be a legal issue.

  6. Hello!
I had the same problem but I didn't put myself through the process of cleaning out and reinstalling, I sadly accepted that outlook was dead and gone and started using windows mail instead. Then the wierdest thing happened. I found an exported outlook mail (.msg) and when I opened it, viola! Outlook just magically reappeared and opened just as if nothing happened. Everything was there as I last saw it. I nailed the icon to the taskbar (wich still is the only place I can open it from, it appears uninstalled when I search for it elsewhere) and now I use it as normal again.
Seems it wasn't really uninstalled, just very invisible.
