    Some apps not working


    Hi !
    On my desktop computer, after migrating to Windows 10, from Windows 7, and solving a lot of problems, I still have one I did not succeed to correct.
    I cannot open two Apps, Mail and Calendar, apparently tied under the same apps "Communications". I have uninstalled them according to the process described in the Tutorial "Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10", i.e. removing the related line in Windows Shell. After checking they had disappeared from the start menu and from the related page of settings, I reinstalled them along the process described in the Tutorial "APPS - Install from my Library in Store". The two have reappeared in the start menu and the settings page. Unfortunately, I still cannot open them. I also made a reset of Windows Store with not any result.
    Incidentally, on my laptop computer, where I migrated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1, the two apps are working.
    If there is someone who can help me solve my problem, I would be very grateful.

    Hi,

    I had a closer look at the problem. I know what goes wrong with those apps during their update.

    With command prompt as admin

    dir “c:\program files\windowsapps” /a

    you can see what version you have of the apps

    On a pc who has (for already some time) Store troubles that is

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.10.13.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.10.13.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_neutral_split.language-xx_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_neutral_split.scale-100_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.25.24.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

    Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.2524.4.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe

    And then regedit:

    In the registry branch HKCU of the user with the broken store there are 129 references to
    2015.25.22.0 instead of 2015.25.24.0.

    On the same pc a user with a Store that works fine: only references to 2015.25.24.0

    (I found some other minor differences too between the Store lines in the branches of the different users.)

    Conclusion: The registry is referring to files that do not exist. The installation of the apps is not okay. It does not execute all needed modifications for all users. It only does the needed registry modifications
    for some users.

    I verified the conclusion on other computers. And they all have wrong registry references for the user with the broken app.

    Can someone of the development team have a look at this? I can send them the complete sample HKCU branches (as a reg file) if they want.


    Please help me and all those others users who suffer with broken Stores, Calculators, Photo apps …

    What happens when you launch Windows apps?

    They don't want to start at all. I already lost app Photos, app Calculator, now Store itself is corrupt.

    Do you get any error code/error message on launching the apps?

    No error message

    You may be facing the above issue due to some corrupted app files & folders or due to some missing app files in the PC.

    Note that the problem is only for some users. And for new users it is okay. I don't believe something is missing. I think something is not correctly registred.

    Since you are facing issue launching Windows apps, I suggest you to run the Windows apps troubleshooter and check if the issue is resolved.

    Did not solve the problem

    Hope you can help me out.

    When I read on forums all over the internet lots of people have this problem. I really think it's a bug. Can someone of the development-team have a look at this?

    This probably is not the solution.
    However, please check and make sure you have all Windows Updates available installed.

    You may not like my suggestion.....................
    Do a Repair Install using this tutorial :
    Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    Or,

    Try my "simplified" method.................
    Download the Win 10 iso from one of the 2 links below
    Media Creation Tool ( MCT ) :
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

    Tech Bench
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench

    Using MCT as example................
    Download the Tool and run it.
    Then select Create installation media for another PC
    That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
    When download is completed, RIGHT click at the ISO > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
    That will begin installing Windows 10.
    You have the choice of keeping settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.

    1- Available updates are installed.
    2- You were right, I do not like the idea of upgrading for a minor problem. I prefer to wait for serious disfonction that eventually may occur to use your suggestion.

    Give this a go...................
    Create another user account, same status ( admin, I presume ) as the one you are now using.
    Logon to it and see if you have the same issue.
