Windows 10: Some apps stopped working after force shutdown.

Hello, After recent update my laptop is taking too long to shutdown. sometimes it will not shutdown properly when i boot it up again it shows 1day+ uptime or just fails to shutdown completely and returns to login screen again after1hr of showing "shutting down" screen. This is an corporate laptop so i have to ask them to do full reset everytime which i can't keep doing this. So today i did a force shutdown by press and holding power button and after booting up, i am not able to run ANY APP. I tried doing system restore, running sfc scan, etc but nothing works. so i need help.Windows specs

Yeah, it's not completely solved until you find out which app is hanging at shut down.

Does it happen if you shut down while in Safe Mode?

If not, then how did troubleshooting with a clean boot posted below go? It's a bit of a pain, but you'll have to shut down between the steps until you hopefully find a culprit.

Thanks Brink for your reply. I did what you suggested and so far, so good. However, I still would like to know how to find out which app is stopping the shutdown. As I said in my original post, when I open task manager, task manager is the only app running. Shouldn't there also be the actual app that is causing the problem; it is obviously still running?

 

My pc takes for ever to shut down when i restart

Suggest cleaning up your startup list .There may be many services / Apps you can remove on startup which is not needed on boot or during shutdown.
Before you shutdown the Pc check what is running in Task Manager as a program or service in not killing the process on shutdown

Would suggest cleaning up running apps and services -Autoruns, StartupMonitor,HighjackThis,
Malware Scan - Malwarebytes,ADWcleaner, Combofix
