Windows 10: Some games cause Alt+Tab to show icons instead of thumbnails

Specifically in this case the biggest and most recent offender is League of Legends, this issue has persisted between multiple windows reinstallations and multiple league reinstallations, and patches.I've contacted riot support about this and despite efforts to help they concluded that this is a windows issue, not a league of legends issue.I've attempted many fixes, such adding a registry dword that should've forced thumbnails, but nothing helped.

There's a possibility that some folder settings may have changed. It could be set to show icons and not thumbnails. To verify that, please follow the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer.
• Click the View tab.
• On the upper-right corner, click Options.
• On the Folder Options, click the View tab.
• Under Files and Folders, uncheck Always show icons, never thumbnails.
• Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, try checking if the folder icons are already showing thumbnails.

Picture ICONS instead of thumbnail pics

Suddenly all of my picture thumbnails are ICONS, instead of thumbnail pics. I have gone through the steps of Unchecking a box that says "always show ICONS instead of thumbnails" and that did NOT help.

I don't like Microsoft Edge or the Cloud, I think those are the culprits that keep doing this to my thumbnails.

Thanks for the feedback. In that case, let's look into the appearance and performance settings of your computer. Please follow the steps below:

• In the Cortana search bar, type in Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows, then click it in the search results to open the
  Performance Options window.
  
• In the Virtual Effects tab, ensure that the Show thumbnails instead of icons option is checked.
• Click Apply, then OK.

If the folders still show the device icon, then please go back to the
Performance Options window, tick Adjust for best appearance option, then click
Apply > OK. Check if the folders are showing thumbnails. If it's still the same, then go back to the
Performance Options window and tick Let Windows choose what's best for my computer.
