Windows 10: some of my files are downloading with the internet explorer icon and wont open

I try looking for answer on why this is happing and nothing work, I've been trying to downlow a file that contains a game from sonic exe mod from fnf, but every time I try to download the mod its just been opening up with Explorer icon, I try clicking on the file and opening properties, than clicking change but nothing works. I don't know what to do

I'm having a problem with my Internet Explorer 6.

In any website I try to access, I get this

Internet Explorer cannot download / SITE
Internet Explorere was not able to open this internet site.

There's a downloading file right behind it. I'm just trying to access a site, but it shows that. Why is it? Is there a way to cure this error?

Files open in internet explorer

Hi Lauren,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

You may have chosen Internet Explorer as a default application to open such files, thus all the icons for your files changed to Internet Explorer icon. I would suggest you try the steps below and see if it helps.

1. Right-click on the file and select Open with.

2. Now, select the application you wish to open your file. (You may click
Other Option to view other applications).

3. Check the box for Always use this app to open <.format> files.

4. Click OK.
