Windows 10: Some outbound RDP connections have stopped working.

My Windows10 PC has stopped being able to establish some outbound RDP connections.

I can connect back onto my Win10 PC from other computers just fine

I can also connect establish some outbound connections without an issue.


For example, trying to connect to another Win10 PC on the LAN that I used to RDP onto daily I get the following error:

"An authentication error has occurred"

"The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted"


Another example, trying to connect to a Windows Server 2016 I immediately get the standard "Your username or password in incorrect".

When I managed to connect to this server from another computer the Event Logs showed that I been connecting OK, then a minute or two later just disconnecting.


I'm running the latest Win10 updates.

I've rebooted and tried over and over.

I've run a "sfc /scannow" and rebooted.


I have no idea what's going wrong or how to fix it.

I've not yet had any luck googling up any examples of this happening to anyone else.

Problem connecting to RDP

Hi,

I get problem to connect to the machine by RDP.

If I turn off Firewall, I can then connect to it by RDP. How to know which Inbound/Outbound firewall rule is leading to the error?

 

Outbound rules still show as allowed.

Why do all of the default (pre-defined) MS Firewall outbound rules still show as allowed when I have set outbound connections to block for the Domain, Private and Public profiles? Shouldn't setting outbound connections to block block everything in the outbound list?

 

RDP not working on MAC

In order to keep things simple I suggest you start by using a Windows PC to connect to your RDP host.

Remember also that the RDP host must run Windows Professional.
