  1. Some sites not working DNS issue

Some sites are unable to open, and displays "The site unexpectedly closed the connection". However, if I use my phone or use a vpn the sites work. Moreover, when I flush dns in command prompt, the sites work for a while then close. I am on windows 11. Someone else asked the same question but the provided solution didnt work. I also tried using a different DNS but it didnt work too. Additionally, can you provide steps to update my NIC driver. Thanks

    :)

  2. DNS problems with router

A couple suggestions I have for you:

Update the firmware on the router. Maybe it's getting into a badstate, and a firmware update might fix it. Or if you're comfortable with it, install a custom firmware like dd-wrt. Just make sure its supported on your router first.

Change your DNS to: 8.8.8.8, 4.2.2.1. Might help.

If none of these work, maybe statically set your DNS on your PS3/PC to the IPs you listed, taking the router out of the lookup procedure.

Last option, is look for a new router.

What's your antivirus and does it use a VPN? You mention TOR via Brave Browser works so it could be a VPN or DNS lookup issue. Can you access crosswordsolver by typing the address here? (Don't use Brave/ TOR) - use another browser like Edge or something to test. ProxySite.com - Free Web Proxy Site If it works then change DNS otherwise don't bother. Change IPv4 and IPv6 DNS Server Address in Windows Use OPTION TWO To Change IPv4 and IPv6 DNS Server Address in Control Panel Steps 1,2,3,4 and 5. Skip Step 6 and 7 Use one of the DNS resolvers listed in: 7. To Use Custom or Third-party DNS Server Address on the same page. Choose one from the table and follow the steps show below the table including the final Step 11. Then power off your machine. Reset your router (via the hard reset button) When your router has reset power on your computer and test.

  4. Some sites not working DNS issue

Browser /connection security, hosts file and DNS service

You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
This means the hosts file is moot?

And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?
