    About 24 percent into the Windows 10 upgrade installation from Windows 8.1, using the Windows Media Creation Tool, I get the error "Windows 10 installation has failed" error. I searched around, and found a similar post. The popup looks the same. But, I have a lot more free space, 500gb, than the guy in the mentioned post. Since he posted a setuperr.log I guess it's helpful:
    Might be worth mentioning that I'm dual booting with ubuntu and have another partition on the hard drive with ubuntu installed on it along with the swap partition. Here's a picture of the partitions:

    Is that what is causing the error? Because quite frankly this error message is vague along with its title "Something happened." I've also tried running the installation with my antivirus and secure boot disabled and still get the same error message at 24 percent.

    I have basically exactly the same problem. Tried so many things but as yet no success.

    I have this exact problem on 4 of my Windows 7/8.1 PCs. I guess Microsniff thinks powerusers are too "stupid" to be allowed to see a real error screen *Mad

    Hey Guys, can i just check that you've tried redownloading the installation files?

    The Microsoft KB points to these errors being caused by corrupt/missing files within the installation directory.

    I see that some with Nvidia drivers are having problems with installs. Try disabling the Nvidia drivers before installing Windows 10. There are discussions on the Drivers and Hardware section of this website concerning Nvidia video driver problems with Windows 10.

    Yeah, every time I run the tool it redownloads Windows 10.

    I disabled the graphics card using device manager, still getting the same message.

    I have downloaded the tool from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 (64-bit) and I get the infamous message of "something happened" the moment I have made all my choices and the download should start.
    I’ve chosen to create a USB media but I get the error also with ISO
    I’ve seen online that a possible cause was the regional settings, which is not the case with me.
    I run windows 8.1 PRO.

    Does anybody know anything?

    I experience exactly the same problem(24% - error message) and I also have Linux(Debian) installed.

    Something happened, Windows 10 installation has failed error.

    Ok so I tried to reinstall windows 7 from the disc as you would the upgrade same problem same crash with windows 7. I then formatted my HDD after making a USB drive with windows 10 on it. I've now reinstalled windows 7 as a clan install I will then try to upgrade from a clean 7 once all the updates finish.
