Windows 10: Something is wrong with one of your data files and outlook needs to close... Repair tool...

Hi,


I am using an installed outlook app on win 10 with an office 365 subscription.


Outlook stopped working and said the .ost file was corrupt.


Every time I start outlook it offers to repair the ost - but this does not work and outlook does not start.


I have tried:

1 The repair tool - does not work

2 Starting with Outlook /safe - no difference

3 Restart - no difference

4 Deleting the .ost from the disk - no difference

5 Repairing office 365 - no difference

6 Reinstalling office 365 - no difference

7 Control panel=>user accounts=>mail => data file tab, delete data file - cannot delete default data file

8 Control panel=>user accounts=>mail => data file tab, make a new data file and set to default - same problem

9 Control panel=>user accounts=>mail => email tab, try to remove email - receive message "you cannot delete this Outlook data file. Configuration information in the file is being copied into you new default data file." this copy never finishes.


Possibly something to do with me deleting the file from the disk manually first? But now I'm stuck.


I need to be able to use the outlook app again, what else can I try?


As an aside, why does Microsoft make it so that you can't copy the text from error messages? It adds insult to injury having to retype your error messages...

Outlook Data File Repair - Win 10

After upgrading to Windows 10, I keep getting an error that there is something wrong with a data file in Outlook (the calendar) and that it has to close. I run the repair tool and repair it, but the very next time it syncs with my Google calendar, Outlook
says it has to close due to a data file issue and I run the repair tool again. It then says everything is fixed until the next time it says it needs to close. How do I get out of this endless loop of repair? This did not occur with Windows 7. I am syncing
Outlook calendar from google calendar.

 

Opening a .MSG file created by Outlook 365

Because the apps I had tried and the one I had installed, appeared on the list of possible Apps in the list for opening MSG files, I thought that repairing Outlook might work. So I tried the repair option as Sheltieuk had suggested. When I then tried Start – Defaults afterwards and looked to see what was available to open MSG files, Outlook had appeared on the list! Selected that and it worked.

For once I have posed not only a question but an answer!!

 

How to install outlook express on windows xp with explorer 8?

This is an awkward problem to solve and one I don't think is worth the time and effort.

The OP would be better off either using a modern webmail service like gmail or outlook.com or using a modern email client like Windows Live Mail like FX-GMC suggested or Thunderbird from Mozilla. If nothing else, Outlook Distress was notorious for corrupting its data files and losing all your email in one easy step. Not worth it.
