  1. Something like sfc scannow for the C drive?

Is there anything that dose what sfc /scannow dose only for the whole C drive? To many side programs like VC+ and dotnetframework can get corrupted and sometimes impossible to reinstall.

Even if I had to make a backup of the C drive it'd be worthwhile....

    :)

We do need the actual log files (called a DMP files) as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask

    sfc /scannow

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some

of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For

example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not

    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Something like sfc scannow for the C drive?

Check disk (chkdsk.exe) will check entire drives for integrity issues. Unlike SFC, however, it can only attempt structural repairs (which don't always succeed). There is no "canonical source" for all files that might appear on a given C: drive, so it doesn't really have the ability to sense corruption and replace suspect files with known, good, working versions as does the system file checker (SFC.exe). Use chkdsk C: /F to have it fix disk errors it finds. All this said, and no insult is intended by referring you to a basic Windows utility, I'm not aware of any programs that check third-party software for integrity issues and perform file-level replacements.

  5. Surely there's something that can build a database via a backup, use md5 or something, and use the backup as the source to replace damaged files? Not so much real time but run as needed.

That's a great idea, Zippy, but I'm not aware of anything like that either in the freeware or commercial software worlds. If you know of something like that, or find something along those lines, please share. I'm sure lots of people, including the OP and myself, would like to know about it.

  7. I can come up with an odd good idea now and then.

I think you could build a script/batch setup to run a hash check on specific files and replace the ones that fail, but sheesh thats alot of busy work and I suck at scripting.
