Windows 10: Something updated on my laptop and disabled my PIN and I now cannot reset my PIN

So I was doing some updates to my laptop and upon a restart I received the message that my PIN would no longer work and that I would need to create a new one. No problem right? nope this became a big problem. Creating a new PIN requires me to login to a Microsoft account I lost access to years ago. I've tried my hardest to recover it to no success and I didn't realize that very same email was the gatekeeper to me being able to login to my Windows laptop. I've did some google searches and came across a few solutions that have me holding my shift key while restarting the laptop and then navigati

Disable Sign In PIN

You can also disable PIN using registry. Try these steps:

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System.
3. Set AllowDomainPINLogon to 0.
4. Close Registry Editor and reboot your system.

Forgotten PIN and expired password

I tried steps of both links:

• #1: reset PIN code
  
  • I see no link "reset your PIN"on login page --> I can't reset it
    
• #2: change or reset windows password
  
  • My Windows account is not displayed at all on login page.
    
  • I am using a local account
    

If you have any other suggestion, I would be more than happy to try.

How to Disable PIN Reset For Windows Hello PIN?

As stated in the subject line, does anyone know how to disable having to change the Windows Hello PIN every couple months?

I tried changing some of the registry editor values, in particular I followed the steps in this link: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/99183-enable-disable-pin-reset-sign-windows-10-a.html

The above did not work, I still have to always reset my PIN. Maybe there are other registry editor values I have to try?

Every time I have to reset the PIN, I get a message saying "Your organization requires you to change your password". But it doesn't really make sense why Microsoft would force this functionality on all users - I get if it was a work computer in an actual organization, you would need to change your password every once in a while for security reasons. But this is my own personal PC, the PIN will not need to be changed that often. It is getting really frustrating having to come up with meaningful number combos that I can remember.....

Also, if I try out someone's suggestion for a fix here, is there a way to test and ensure I won't be asked to change my PIN again? All the research I've done online has led me to changing some registry editor value, but I always ended up assuming it worked until I was asked to change the PIN again. So I just want to be sure this one final time.

EDIT: I just checked in settings - apparently Windows Hello PIN option is unavailable (even though I set it up and log in everyday with it), and Windows Hello sign in is enabled by default. Not sure what is going here...
