    Sometimes I plug my external harddrive in and the screen goes black for a second


    As the title says, sometimes I plug my external hard drive in and the screen goes black for a second. It's really rare though. Is this problem related to the OS? I'm using Windows 10. It recently did a large update, so maybe I won't have the problem again.... Or is it a sign my external hard drive is going bad? Or is there malware on the ext. hard drive? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

    • Were there any changes made on your laptop prior to this?
    • Does it only happen when you use Internet Explorer, or have you tried using a different browser?
    • Are there any external devices plugged into your laptop?

    Hi Kris,

    It is possible that your screen goes black may be due to a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down. To isolate your issue, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Did you get any error messages when it turns black?
    • Have you tried checking if the sleep mode is turned on/off?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    Meanwhile, we recommend that you perform the steps in this

    i am watching netflick on my laptop and the screen goes black after 15 seconds or so and i have to wiggle the mouse to get pic back any suggestions
