My son is in college out of the home and is having trouble accessing websites as part of his engineering curriculum. He will get messages stating that he needs to be granted permission to access certain sites. We spent 2+ hours on Live Chat support this evening trying to resolve the need to grant permission. Both support staff members tried multiple things to try to remove the feature, but were unsuccessful. We were instructed to post in this forum for a resolution. We tried removing and then adding again as a family member, we tried to uninstall Microsoft Edge wasn't an option, we si

  3. Family Safety screen time stuck on old settings

    • I set up family safety settings under windows 8.
    • Configured screen time options to for only daytime, so as to prevent my son from using the computer too early or too late in the day.
    • I've upgraded the computer to Windows 10 (live update, not a fresh install).
    • Now I want to change the screen time settings for my son. Nothing I have attempted (short of clean install of Windows) has worked.
      • Changing time settings doesn't work
      • Turning off Screen Time doesn't help
      • Removing/Adding his account from family safety doesn't help
      • Removing/Adding the computer from family safety doesn't help
    • I don't see a Windows Family Safety service running on the machine, which is odd.
    • I really don't want to do a fresh Windows install.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Family Safety Issue With Websites

    Hi, KeyRing42

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with Microsoft's family safety features where a website is being incorrectly blocked or not recognized as valid. Here are a few steps you could try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check the URL: Ensure that the URL is entered correctly in the family safety settings. Sometimes, the 'www' is necessary, or it could be an 'https' issue.
    2. Try a Different Browser: If you're using Microsoft Edge, try accessing the site with a different browser to see if the issue is browser-specific.
    3. Add as an Allowed Site: If you haven't already, try adding 'example.com' to the list of allowed sites within the Microsoft Family Safety settings.
    4. Check the Website's Security Certificate: Sometimes, security settings can block sites with invalid or expired certificates. You can check this by visiting the site and looking at the security information in the browser's address bar.
    5. Use a Different Device: Check if the issue persists on a different device. This can help determine if the problem is with the device or the account settings.
Please ensure that the website in question is safe and appropriate for the child before attempting to bypass any safety features.

    Best Regards
