Windows 10: Sony Vaio laptop not playing sound through laptop speakers

I have a Sony Vaio laptop VJS131 with Windows 10 Pro on it. Within the last two days my computer has stopped playing sounds through the laptop speakers. Audio from external speakers/headphones works fine, but no sound plays from the computer's speakers. I have ensured that the correct device the Speaker/HP Realtek High-Definition Audio is being used and the computer does not think an external device is attached.


I have gone through the troubleshooting process using "Toubleshoot Sound Problems" gotten by right-clicking on the sound icon in my tray, and each time I do so Windows tells me that I should turn off audio enhancements, none of which are on. It then suggests I reinstall/update my driver, which I allow it to do, and then it requires me to restart my computer. After restarting the computer the sound is still not working.


There is no error message associated with this problem. When I open the volume mixer and change the volume level I see that the computer thinks the sound is playing just fine although I hear nothing.


This problem started suddenly. I have not changed any settings on my computer, performed any updates other than to update the driver when I realized the sound wasn't working, or done anything to cause this issue.


Please help! This is a work computer, so bringing it in to get fixed somewhere is a difficult thing to manage.

no sound plays through internal speakers

I cannot get any sound to play through the internal speakers of my laptop. It did play previously. The speaker in the task bar has a red and white x and the trouble shooter says no speakers headphones plugged in. When I pull up the info on sound it lists
its location at HDMI port. Suggestions?

My realtek high definition audio driver is ver 6.0.1.7620 and speaker/hp (realtek high definition audio) driver is ver 1.0.64.10

When Jack socket not in use I get a whistling/ringing sound and have to disable device to stop it.

Think it has been happening for the last year.

Have just plugged in iPod and works ok with sound from the speakers.

If I plug in an external speaker to the headphone socket, the whistling also stops, but sounds on Laptop (keystrokes/knocks) and table are picked up and relayed out.

1. How can this be fixed?

2. Is there a built in mic which will still work if the jack is disabled?
