  1. Sort a list of file names according to their duplication suffix 2 and 3

Hi. I've duplicated thousands of picture files that now have the suffix 2 and 3 etc based on th standard naming rule when you place identical files names into the same folder. I need to delete the duplicates. I'm doinmg this manually one at a time. Is there any way to sort the names of the photos by the suffex 2 and 3 etc so I can do this quickly? IE can I make this: happen A,B,C,D,E, A1, A2, B1, B2 etc because currently it looks like A, A1,A2 B, B2,B3 etc. I have tried sorting by suffix but it does not change the order in the list. I'm stuck. Thank you for any help you can offer and hope I've managed to explain it well enough.

    :)

How to sort by file name?

    Hi Walter,

There is a lot of files on a PC, and Windows system files will produce a lot of duplicates, which are required . . .

    Open Windows File Explorer

Navigate to whatever drive or folder you want to search

In the search box at the top right, enter *.* and hit Enter, that will bring up a list of every file - it may be a very long list, you can then sort by file name to find duplicates . . .

    Finding duplicate files

    Hey hey,

During the years the backups have just accumulated in random places, essentially, and I would like to clean up. Is there a program that can search for duplicate files? And by that I mean identical files. I tried dupeGuru, but that somehow found ... all files to be identical I guess? Like how a bunch of jpg's with different names, sizes and locations being marked 100% identical, or how a bunch of xls-files with completely different everything also were 100% matches with each other. I don't need any fancy functions, just a list of the files that share the name and filesize and created/last write dates.

  4. Sort a list of file names according to their duplication suffix 2 and 3

    Sorting Files by Name

I have some files that were duplicated in one of my folders. The duplicates are named "filename-001.*"

I would like to sort my files by their full file name, including the -001, so that I can select them and delete the duplicates

My files are not currently sorted by their full name, rather :

    Filename1.*

    Filename1-001.*

    Filename2.*

    Filename2-001.*

Please advise how I can properly sort my files or use wildcards to select only the files with "-001" included in their file name.

    thanks
