Sorting Search Results Changes Date Accessed

When I use the search feature of File Explorer in Windows 10 to generate a list of files that meet a certain criteria a partial name search or a date accessed range for example it behaves as expected returning a list of files. If, however, I then click on the file name column to sort the results of the search by file name, the Date Accessed date and time update to the current date and time.

I have disabled my virus and firewall products and get the same result, I also booted into Safe mode and got the same results.

Is there a way to stop this from happening as there are occasions where I am specifically looking for a date and time accessed and don't want them to update based on me sorting the search results.

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. sort search results without searching AGAIN

I'm searching a network drive, and it's 4TB (nearly full), so this is a non-indexed search. It takes more than a few minutes to complete.

When I search my results seem to be all over the place and in whatever order it found the files. No problem, I'll just sort this by date for a bit more organization.

Then it restarts the search all over again, even though it hasn't changed. All I want to do is sort the current results I'm looking at!

This kind of behavior makes me angry. Is there any way to just sort those files? Even better, is there a way to Further search those results without searching the entire drive again?

    Example....

I'm trying to find a powerpoint file. First, let me take a look at a search for *.ppt. Great, 6000 results. That's a bit too many. Well, I'm pretty sure it was some sort of stupid corporate powerpoint talking about innovation, so it's Likely to have at least
part of that work, so I'd like to search Those results with "*inno*" just to see if that helps. But if I do that, instead of searching through Those results, it searches the entire 4TB again.

Is there some sort of power way of doing that within windows without non-MS software? I'm fine with adding windows features. We will NOT install 3rd party software for solutions like this, so don't suggest some crap from softpedia or other janky site like
    that.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

how to sort search results without searching AGAIN?

    Apologies.

In Windows 10, yes, this will search again if you try to sort the search result.

I would suggest that you put a feedback through feedback hub.
