Windows 10: Sound cutting out when running multiple programs on Windows 11

I've been running into issues with my sound cutting out on a new Dell XPS 15 9520 laptop on Windows 11, when running multiple programs.If I have e.g. a Zoom call open, and run something like a Steam game at the same time, the game's audio gets muted or dulled down intermittantly. It cuts in and out.I tried updating the Realtek high definition sound drivers by downloading and installing them manually from the Dell website. I also tried turning off Exclusive Mode in the sound settings, Audio Enhancements, pretty much every combination of the very few! available settings, nothing seems to chang

Microsoft Sudoku cuts off system sound

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• Is the issue happen only when you use Microsoft Sudoku?

Let’s try simple methods and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below steps.

Method 1.

I would suggest you to run sound audio troubleshooter, it will automatically detect the problem and fix it. Follow the below method.

• 
  Press Windows key + R and click on
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on View by: category and click on
  Small icon.
  
• 
  Now click on troubleshooting and click on
  Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Click on Playing Audio and Click on Next button.
  

If the issue still persist, try the below method:

Method 2.

Step 1.

I suggest you to uninstall the sound driver and check.

  Press Windows key + X and select
  Device manager.
  
• 
  Now click on Audio input and outputs to expand, right click on the device and click on
  uninstall.
  
• Once you are done uninstalling the driver restart the computer. It should automatically installed the driver.

If the still persist, try the below steps.

Step 2.

I suggest you to update the audio driver and check.

• 
  Press Windows key + X and select
  Device manager.
  
• Now click on Audio input and outputs and right click on it and
  update the software.

If the above methods did not help to fix the issue, try the below method.

Method 3.

I recommend you to go to the computer manufacturer website and download the latest updated sound adapter for Windows 10 and install the same. If the available driver is not for Windows 10 try installing the driver in compatibility mode.

  Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.
  
• 
  Select Compatibility tab.
  
• 
  Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Method 1: Run the inbuilt Hardware & Devices troubleshooter.


Steps:

• 
  Press “Windows key + X” and type “troubleshooting”.
  
• 
  Select “Troubleshooting”.
  
• 
  Select “View all” on the top left corner.
  
• 
  Click “Hardware & Sound”.
  
• 
  Click on “Hardware & Devices”
  

Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

If Method 1 doesn’t help try method 2.

Method 2: Run audio troubleshooter
