Windows 10: Sound output is muddy

    Sound output is muddy


    I have a dell xps 7590 running windows 10. Sound output on the built in speakers is clear but when i plug something in the output is muddy/echoey/just sounds like the output bit rate is super super low.



    I thought that my speakers were broken but lastnight after messing with a bunch of settings to no avail, I decided to hook my amp up to a bluetooth receiver rather than plugging the computer directly into my speakers with an aux cord and that completely fixed the problem!



    The problem is now, inexplicably, my bluetooth headphones have the same muddied sound that my speakers did! I have no clue what I did, they used to sound clear!



    EDIT: I noticed in properties for my headphones, it is outputting at 1 channel 16 but 16000 hz "tape recorder" quality, but the drop down menu to change it is grayed out!!

    Sound is Muddy

    I got a new computer yesterday, but I've only just now started trying to watch things; the sound is very hollow and muddy, and no matter what I try to do, I can't get it to sharpen.

    Windows 10 audio stutters regardless of driver or output used, more noticeable on the toslink and surround sound.

    • What device are you using? A laptop or a computer?
    • Its a desktop, i listed the components in the original post.
    • Do you have an external speaker?From which device does the sound come out from? From the TV or from the device?
    • I listed the outputs in the original post. The issue exists on all outputs and exists on the tv speakers, surround sound speakers, and headset.
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • I have listed the troubleshooting steps that i can remember in the original post.

    Good surround sound headset

    I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue Sound output is muddy :p
