Windows 10: Sound Problems / Headphones and other audio devices not working

Hi thereI've had my PC for around 3-4 years and it has worked completely fine in that time. Only recently, for the past 4 months or so I've only been able to use sound through my monitor as trying to plug in headphones or earphones into both my front USB audio and mic jack and the back audio jack do nothing. Checking device manager, no headphone or earphone audio devices pop up or are even recognised. In device manager, under 'audio inputs and outputs' there is my monitor and it's 'high definition audio device' and under 'sound, video and game controllers' there is only 'high definition audio

Audio issues with only the left side of headphones/earphones work.

The port of the device could be the culprit why only the left side of your headphones works. A hardware or software changes could also be the reason for this kind of issue. However, let's not assume anything yet until we isolated your concern. We suggest
that you run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter in Windows Settings. Simply search for
Troubleshoot in the start menu. Under Find and fix other problems, click on
Hardware and Devices. We also suggest that you run the audio test for your headphones in Hardware and Sound. Here are the steps on how to do so:

• Go to Control Panel, then click on Hardware and Sound.
• Under Sound, click on Manage audio devices.
• Click on Headphones, then Configure at the bottom right.
• Run the test, and see if both sides of your headphones are working there.

problem.

• Check if the sound is muted. If it is muted, the headphone won’t have sound.
• Check the connection. Try unplugging the headphone and firmly plug it back in.
• Check the port. If you are using a USB headphone, try a different USB port.
• Try the headphone on another computer. Use your headphone on another computer. If it doesn’t work on that computer, the headphone might be broken. In that case, you need to replace it with a new one.

No Sound Through Headphones


Hello! I've already read through many of the similar questions on this forum, however none of the solutions seem to work.
Sound comes through perfectly fine on my laptop's built-in speakers. However, when plugging my headphones into the 3.5mm headset jack, there is no sound whatsoever. The system recognizes that my headset is plugged in. In fact, the microphone on my headset functions perfectly when plugged in, but the headphones themselves are outputting no sound.
I tested the headphones on other computers and devices, and they work.
In Device Manager, the device is listed as "Realtek High Definition Audio". However, the only sound device listed in Control Panel is "DTS Audio Control Panel".
I've tried uninstalling the audio device from Device Manager, and then reinstalling the driver from Realtek's website.
However, this is met with the exact same results... no sound through the headphones, and "DTS Audio Manager" is installed in the Control Panel instead of Realtek HD Audio Manager.
If I navigate to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback, "Headphones" is not listed as a device. Instead, Speakers/Headphones is listen as the sole device.
Also, I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and it returned absolutely no errors.
I have posted screenshots and a few of my system specifications just in case.
