"Source and destination are same" In OneDrive

I don't fully understand what condition is causing this, but here's what I observed:

I moved some Excel spreadsheets and txt files to OneDrive so that I can work on them from either of two computers. The spreadsheet has macros that create new files, or maybe I should say renames a current txt file to xxxxOld, and writes a new xxxx file. It also creates a new copy of the spreadsheet itself with a date added as part of the file name so that I can keep 30 day's of the spreadsheet.

The problem is, when a new file is created in OneDrive on computer #1, when I attempt to open that file (from windows explorer) on computer #2, I get the "Source and destination are same" popup. If I just close the popup, the file will open just fine. One other point, I ran the DIR command to look at the files on OneDrive, the trouble files on computer #2 have parenthesis around the file size. The parenthesis will go away after closing the pop up.

    Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

  3. Access Points and Destinations

it takes a bit of getting used to moving from the access point lists to the destinations list they use now.

a couple of points i would suggest that are useful is that

1 many applications will inherit the settings specified in the browser or the 'default' setting in the destinations menu

2 you can add destinations and copy access points to them, if say you want some things to use wifi and an internet cell access point in that order, but you want something else to only only the internet cell access point you can add it to a new destination.

3 some apps that bring up the destinations list allow you to select access points from the options menu.

    Documents Destination

The next troubleshooting step we suggest is to restore the default location of the folders. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Start button.

    • Choose File Explorer.

    • Type shell:UsersFilesFolder in the address bar.

    • Right-click the Documents folder.

    • Click the Location tab.

    • Click Restore Default.

    • Click OK.

Follow the same steps to restore the default location for your Pictures folder.

Give these steps a shot and check if the folders are unlinked from OneDrive.
