    Source for EUFI files?

    My windows 10 PC won't boot. I'm stuck in windows RE and the auto repair is failing. Now I'm hacking away at the terminal typing a bunch of commands from online support pages/forums.

    I have tried;

    bootrec /fixmbr

    This executed ok, but did not fix my problem.

    Then

    bootrec /fixboot

    but I got permission denied.

    To work around this I used the diskpart utility to assign a letter V: to the EFI partition volume. I then formatted it;

    format V: /FS:FAT32

    and tried this;

    bcdboot C:\Windows /s V: /f UEFI

    This command fails. I don't even have a C: with a windows folder at least not visible in this command prompt. I have X:, so I tried this;

    bcdboot X:\Windows /s V: /f UEFI

    And I get the following errors;

    BFSVC Error: Failed to set element application device

    BFSVC Error: Failed to populate BCD store

    Am I selecting the correct source for UEFI files? Is it normal to not have a "C:" in this situation? Or could this point to hard disk failure?

    :)

  2. Office 365 Word: Mail Merge - Is it Supported for editing if the Source file is Saved in a Network Shared Drive?

    Hi RaiO365,

    I tested on my side step by step according to the steps you provided for me, and the result was same with you.
    It may be because the way to access local files and access files on the network drive is different, so it can be saved after changing the source file locally, but not on the network drive.

    My suggestion is that you can update source file first, then mail merge file.

    Regards,
    Jazlyn

    Source to use for DISM on Windows 10

    This is not completely true. The suggestion is to download the Techbench version and use DISM to apply to install.wim directly. However, you can also use the version download from MCT except it will involve an extra step as follows:
    1. Use the latest version of 7-Zip to extract the content of install.esd. For example: to a folder xxx on the desktop
    2. From Admin command prompt:
      Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\xxx\windows /LimitAccess

    See screen shot, the contents of install.wim and install.esd are exactly the same.

    Extracting Zip Files

    Thanks pyramid10 for your contribution, I ensured that the steps taken and the source and destination folders were the same, in the using zip7 as suggested by BunnyJ resolved all issues for me.
    I am the first to admit that I am a long long way from understanding the intricacies of computers and if truth be told I am now to old anyway to absorb much information.
    Cheers.
