Windows 10: Speaker and headphones won't show up

So I have been using this speaker and headphones for a while and randomly they stopped working today after I restarted my computer.


It doesn't show up when I click the speaker icon, doesn't show up in sound control panel and in device manager the 'Realtek High Definition Audio' under 'Sound, video and game controllers' tab is only visible when I enable 'show hidden devices' in the view menu and even then it has a grayed out speaker icon. I used a program to updates its drivers, and I tried the speakers on another pc and it worked so the speakers are good. I see the 'Realtek HD Audio Manager' in the startup menu of the task manager but it doesn't seem to be running when I looked for it so I went to its file location and non of the applications there do anything when I try to run them. I also tried 'Run compatibility troubleshooter' for the Realtek HD Audio Manager RAVCpI64 and when I pressed the 'Test the program' button it did absolutely nothing. I tried 'troubleshoot sound problems' but when I'm asked to select the device I dont see my speaker there as an option to troubleshoot.


Finally I went into device manager>Sound, video and game controllers>Realtek High Definition Audio>Properties>General

and under device status is shows

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. Code 45

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

so I searched up the error and followed the steps from https://www.****/knowledge/fixed-code-45-in-device-manager/#F4 but still no luck.


Before the problem occurred I was playing a game Terraria and had left to eat while it was open, and when I came back everything was frozen so I restarted my pc and that's when the Speakers and headphones weren't showing up anywhere. Also My Bluetooth headphones still work as well as my monitor speaker. The speaker and headphones I'm trying to use are plugged in with the green wire and I've tried both the front and back green port. After the issue I also updated Windows since there was an update and thought maybe that could fix it.

• Does your speaker work normally when connected to your desktop?

You may try the following steps to help resolve your concern:

• Unplug or Disconnect your speaker from the desktop.
• Connect your headphone directly to the desktop.

Headphones and Speakers not showing up in playback devices

To help us identify the cause of the issue and then find the proper resolution for it, please tell us if you made any significant hardware or software changes on your laptop prior to this issue. Also, can you provide us the steps you have already taken to
try to resolve the issue? In the meantime, follow these steps on how you can enable your playback devices:

• Right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Sounds.
• Under the Playback tab, right-click on the default speakers and select
  Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. Your headphones or speakers should now appear here.
• Right-click the headphones or speakers and select Enable.

No Speakers or Headphones detected

This issue may have been caused by a corrupted Audio driver or defective audio port.

• Are you still able to play music using a built-in speakers?
• Have you tried using other headphones or external speakers?
