Windows 10: Speaker Output Source Changes Randomly

I am having an odd sound problem on my desktop PC. It is an older home brew which has worked fine for a long time, until now.

My speakers are connected to my audio card and appear as a High Definition Audio Device. When nothing changes, they work fine.

However, sometimes upon being awakened from sleep or at other random times the setting changes to Digital Audio and no sound will play through the speakers.

I can remedy this problem by physically removing the one green speaker wire attached to the sound card and reinserting it. Restarting the PC also fixes it.

I have tried disabling digital audio in sound settings but that does not resolve the problem.

Any idea why this is happening and how to get a permanent fix? I am currently running Windows 10 Ver 1909.

No Audio Output Device is Installed

Hi,

You will need to select Windows 8 from the drop down list while installing the driver in compatibility mode.

I would suggest you to try setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

2. Select "playback devices".

3. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

5. Save the changes.

N97 speakers..why poor volume output??

Alot has to do with speaker placement, size, output power, etc.... One thing to consider is the source. If the source of the media (i.e. TV show is low) the sound or output volume will also be low, and again, these are not B&W speakers.

 

Windows 10 audio stutters regardless of driver or output used, more noticeable on the toslink and surround sound.

• What device are you using? A laptop or a computer?
• Its a desktop, i listed the components in the original post.
• Do you have an external speaker?From which device does the sound come out from? From the TV or from the device?
• I listed the outputs in the original post. The issue exists on all outputs and exists on the tv speakers, surround sound speakers, and headset.
• What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
• I have listed the troubleshooting steps that i can remember in the original post.
