I apologise in advance for this because anyone who is computer savvy will probably find this a painful read as I have no idea what I'm on about.

My problems began about a year ago. I have a three year old HP Pavilion 15-au179sa. I started noticing an issue with the speakers. Sometimes the audio would start getting quieter and quieter then cutting in and out and eventually ceasing altogether. For some reason attaching headphones leaving it a few seconds and pulling them back out fixed the problem. This has been happening more frequently with time. Two day ago when I plugged in my headphones the audio sounded weird, kinda like it was underwater. My headphones work with my phone so it is not them and I tried another set with my laptop and the problem was still there so it is definitely the laptop.

I posted in the HP Community Help Forum and I was advised to do a clean install of Realtek driver. I was told to uninstall the sound driver, reboot, download the following link ( https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105738.exe ) and run it as administer and reboot again. I done all this and the situation just got worse. At this point I had no audio at all. At least before I could use the external speakers and just use my little headphone trick when the audio started to fail.

I posted an update but unfortunately I got no reply. Eventually I found my way to this page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers) and it identified my product and recommended a driver. I installed the recommended driver (Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver Version 6.0.1.8117 Rev.E Release Date May 25, 2017). At this point I am back at square one, my speakers are working and if they stop I can just use my headphone trick but through the headphones it still sounds like it is underwater.

I began thinking maybe the reason I am having these problems is because I haven't updated my Windows. I am running Version 1803 OS Build 17134.1130. My laptop has been begging me for months to update but I kept ignoring it because I didn't have enough disk space to update.

So yesterday I moved loads of files onto a USB stick to free up space. I got 7GB of free space on my C: drive. I also plugged in a different USB that had more than 10GB of free space as an external storage device. The following situation has happened twice now:

I go to Settings and click to update Windows. It says "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903" and then goes through downloading and installing it. Then it tells me I need to reboot for the update to be installed. Now I get a blue screen that says "Working on updates 0% Don't turn off your PC. This will take a while. Your PC will restart several times." and it stays like this. The first time I left it overnight and the second time for a few hours but eventually I had to use my laptop so I restarted it and then I get a message saying it failed to install.

At this point I don't know what to do. I would really appreciate it if anyone had some advice on what I could do next. And again sorry for the long convoluted read.

    Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue Speaker/Sound Issues and Update stuck on 0% :p
