speaker volume slider sound is too loud - how do i turn it down?

I have dug around the settings but can't find the solution.

In my laptop the sound levels can be changed via a taskbar icon - it brings up a volume slider. When I click on that slider the sound is very loud. If our external speaker is plugged in the sound is super loud. If you're trying to adjust the sound a bit on a song, we are deafened by a loud "dingggg" as the cursor hits the slider.

How do I turn this down? There must be a way!

    :)

speaker ( or sound ) slider switch disappeared

    Hi Hank,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

    • Are you able to use Volume slider on the taskbar?

    • Do you get any error message?

    • Are you able to see sound icon on the taskbar?
I suggest you to hoover your mouse on the right side of the taskbar and click on the sound icon and try to use volume slider and check if it that works.

Follow the steps below and check.

    • Discover the empty slot on the
      Taskbar
      and Right click.

    • Click on Properties.

    • Under Taskbar tab and Notification area
      click on Custom.

    • Tap on Select which icons appears on the taskbar.

    • Turn on Volume option.
Hope this helps. If any other issues get back to us. We are glad to help you.

    Thanks

    sound speaker loudness

Here's a few things to try:

    • Right-click volume icon, choose the Sound Mixer option, and make sure all the bars are up
    • Right-click volume icon, choose Spacial Sound, make sure it's off
    • Right-click volume icon, choose Playback Devices. Double-click your speakers in the list, and make sure the Levels tab is up, and the enhancements tab is either disabled or set how you prefer
    • Go to the website for the company that built the computer, go to their Support & Drivers section, and download the newest sound drivers available
