    Speakers are not working and the speakers icon in the sound control panel is grey


    Hi, I recently purposely upgraded to Windows 10 version 1809 from Windows 7. With the Windows 7 and Windows 10 version 1809, I can choose my own default sound icon e.g. I can choose Speakers as default instead of Realtek Digital Output from the sound control panel. With this, I can use my speakers or headphones to hear sounds. But then, Windows automatically updated itself to Windows 10 version 1904. With the Windows 10 version 1904, I can no longer set my own default sound icon, i.e., it can only be set to Realtek Digital Output. As a result, I can no longer set my default as the Speakers i

    In fact the window seems unfamiliar; shouldn't it have check boxes showing which actions have been set?

    If it's relevant this is Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.418)

    OK, sorted thanks. I found a suggestion to update the driver for the 'High Definition Audio Device'. That got my 'Program Events' sounds back.

    As for my other query, I now remember that the speaker icon indicates the enabled events.
